C919 launch rings alarm bells for Airbus, Boeing

WS-20 are based on CFM-56 core. Leap-1C is an advance version of CFM-56.

The totally different D30KP2 engine can be easily replaced by WS-20 engine for Y-20 as demonstrated by a Y-20 prototype flying the engine. When CHinese engineer design the C919, such consideration has long been taken in with swapping out engine with another. Of cos, testing and integration are still needed. But its not as difficult as you all think,

The commercial turbofan is optimized for fuel efficiency while the military ones are optimized for ruggedness. You dont normally use military engine on commercial flight because that will means losing monies for airlines.

However RR or GE will will the same base technologies develop different engine optimized for their respective mission.

It doesnt need export orders to make a dent, China's own domestic market is large enough if captured the numbers are enough for Airbus and Boeing to be worried. They also have a serious competitor to ATR for which even a Pakistani aviation services provider has made preorders

Knowing Boeing and how it dealt with competition in US won't be surprised if they will play dirty and try to impose restrictions. China is smart, until matured or they really need extra export orders they will likely stay away from US carriers to avoid any restrictions on suppliers.

For military AWACS and transport plane. There is not much different for engine used for them. It will be the same for WS-20.

it will be great if its cover up china domestic orders . with no order from china to a320 and 737 will be pain in west

One reason is when you sign Leap 1C agreement, Safran most likely put a clause that cannot be use in military application.
That is why WS-20 comes into picture. WS-20 can used in civilian airliner. There are many airplane still used basic CFM-56 turbofan serving the airliner.

EUV lithography and commercial aircraft engine are the Crown Jewels of western technology. Once these technology choke points are overcome, China and the West will be basically equal in technology.
