BYD zooms past Tesla in China's electric-car market

Apart from the US that applied unfair trade practices and restrictions to block the import of Chinese EV.

What the @#$% are you talking about? There are no restrictions on Chinese EV's. Do you think Warren Buffet would have bought 25% of BYD back in 2008 if there were import restrictions here????

China is the one that imposed high tariffs on imported cars. That's why Tesla had to build a factory in Shanghai and why other foreign EV makers have a zero marketshare in China.

That shows all these while you have been hypernating, believing that US really practice free global trade.

Warren Buffet purchase of BYD represents the liberal aspect of free and fair trade practice by socialist China and not USA.

Get it before you gets more confused.

Tariff imposed on Chinese goods are paid by American Importers and NOT China.

Nope, eventually GigaBerlin will be switching to the Tesla custom designed 4680 batteries built in house when the GigaBerlin battery factory opens.

But right now yes they will be using the old 2170's imported from companies like CATL and Panasonic. They aren't going to sink money into new assembly lines for the old battery style...let CATL do that.
Future tense doesn't count, you got a tiny pilot plant now, the real production will still be CATL or Panasonic no matter 4680 or 2170...

I like how you have suddenly dodged your import tariff assertion (likely after you actually looked up the facts) and are now going on some tangent with ownership. All US car companies are publicly traded so there is nothing stopping anybody from buying a large chunk of them.

Yes, it is likely Tesla's auto production will grow quicker than the 4680 output of its own battery factories and that is why they have already contacted 3rd party battery manufacturers to be ready.

But notice how CATL doesn't have a monopoly on Tesla's battery supply. It is just one supplier.

The current CATL LFP battery pack is only good for the entry level short range cars.

Maybe EV made esp emision irrelevant in some state at this moment but they will soon be at their dirty tricks again.

Most Chinese car makers felt it is no longer feasible to export to US in view of the discrimination.

Whenever they complied with the standard, the US will raise the barrier higher.
That is how the US play its dirty games.
This is one area China should learn from the US in dealing with thr US.

When real journalism was still in existence in the US, it is easy to glean all these information from news paper cutting.

No, these are mostly shared standards in developed countries like in the EU, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Other than the color of some of the turn signals and the side the steering wheel is on the Japanese/Korean/European/American car companies sell the same cars across all countries.

Do you really think the Teslas exported by Shanghai China to the EU/Korea/Japan somehow get around these standards?? Or go down some crazy forked 30 country customization path on the Shanghai assembly line? Try using your brain for once at how stupid that sounds.

CATL is not just one, but the main supplier for Tesla. Tesla does not possess the technology to mass produce batteries, so they have to resort to CATL and other battery companies. Period.
