Bush says told Pakistan U.S. will protect Americans WASHINGTON: U.S. President George W. Bush said Tuesday the United States has made it clear to Pakistan that it will do whatever is necessary to protect Americans.
Bush told the graduating class at U.S. Military Academy at West Point that one of the most important challenges they would face in the years ahead is helping allies assert control over ungoverned territory.
"The problem is most pronounced in Pakistan, where areas along the Afghanistan border are home to Taliban and al Qaeda fighters," Bush said.
Pakistan understands the terrorism threat, he said, but added, "We have made it clear to Pakistan and all our partners that we will do what is necessary to protect American troops and the American people."
The United States has about 31,000 troops in neighboring Afghanista
