The railways ministry is considering implementing a high-speed bullet train service between Delhi-Chennai.

Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu told Bloomberg TV the ministry was mulling operating a second bullet train project between Delhi and Chennai, and the Chinese had evinced interest in implementing it.

The Centre last year had announced operating a bullet train service between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

A high-level team from the Railways had earlier visited Beijing to discuss the possibility of Chinese engagement in conducting a feasibility study for the New Delhi-Chennai 300 kmph train service.

The proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will function on Japanese technology.

According to media reports, the $32.6 billion estimated New Delhi-Chennai high-speed rail project covering a distance of 1,754 km would become the world’s second largest project, next to the 2,298-km high speed track between Beijing and Guangzhou, which was launched last year.

Please keep this at separate stations, or for f**k sake upgrade the current infrastructure.

Fabulous Delhi to Chennai . 1754 km ÷ 300 km/hr = Nearly 6 hrs :D even with 2 hrs stops at various stations on the way by 8 hrs we can reach either locations. This will help our internal economy . This will be a huge hit even with high ticket rates . 32 billions ! Will take lots of tears to be recovered .

So people are supposed to buckle up from the planning stage itself ?

Its the Chinese we are talking about ... :D

once the land bill is passed, is master of 5-7 years. 2022 I see diamond quadrilateral in finishing stages.

.
Never going to materialise.Feasibility tests have been going on since 2011.

useless vanity project... BS reporter as the article says...

Nope. The travel on air is exploding. This will be a good intermediate option to handle the volumes. The HSR is gonna be an obvious requirement to increase connectivity.

in case of indian raiways, freight trains subsidise passenger ones, I am skeptical of this being economically viable as the cost wil run into billions of dollars.
Our airports are not congested, we can build additional capacity much more quickly. In short to medium term, this is waste of money, they better spend it on upgrading railways infra and build more freight corridor. And no, you cant do both unless you get into massive debt.

We don't need this bullet crap, not at this time anyway. Travelled to Delhi early this year, traffic is just horrible, especially at peak hours. Add dirty, dusty to the list as well.
Capital city of NEXT SUPERPOWER shouldn't be like this.
