A Bangladeshi cattle trader was gunned down by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Ohedpur border area in Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj early Monday.

The victim was identified as Tariqul Islam, 35, son of Yusuf Ali, resident of Jamaipara village.
The BSF members from Chadnichak border camp opened fire at a group of cattle traders numbering 5-6 in the area around 1am while they were entering Bangladesh through the border from India, leaving Tariqul bullet wounded.

Later, Tariqul died at his house in the area around 2:30am.

Lt Col Abu Zafor Sheikh Mohammad Bazlul Haque, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion-9 confirmed the incident.

Not really. The reports from Bangladesh will tell you that every odd week a Bangladeshi 'cattle trader' is killed/injured by BSF firing. What those reports will not tell you is that every odd day, a BSF jawan gets injured or worse, killed by these 'traders' while trying to stop them.

Further, these 'traders' are more often than not armed smugglers, equipped with everything from pick axes, knives & swords to modern firearms and explosives. And they travel in large groups, of upto 20-30, making it nearly impossible for an outnumbered BSF patrol party to hold them back without lethal force, if they decide to attack. There are several stories of BSF jawans being hacked to death, mutilated by these smugglers when they were under instructions to not fire under any circumstances.

Even Congress led government was forced to roll back the 'Don't shoot' directive given the absurdity of such a restriction on the soldiers who faced death at the hands of these very smugglers whom they couldn't in any case arrest, given their size.

How do I know? Well, my hostel is pretty close to the International border, and horror stories continue to trickle in at an alarming rate.

That is international border. The if the cattle traders don't want bullets, they can apply for proper channels, trade visa and all. If they can't, they should keep themselves to mighty Bangladesh.

Most of them are arrested but sometimes these idiots try to run and BSF fires. If someone do that anywhere in the world, the border guards will do that.

Hey dumbF_Uck they aren't smugglers, most of them are traders. Bangladesh and India have trading posts where traders from the other nation come and trade goods. Also, please tell me how 6 year olds are smugglers, these children mostly wonder away to the other side as children don't know much about borders and a lot of them can't read.
