I am from Bengal where Muslims have more caste system and Hindus don't follow much caste system. I am talking from a neutral point of view.

The Hindus of Bengal went through a renaissance hence the intellectuality like the adda culture of Calcutta where the Calcuttans gather in tea rooms and talk for hours. The Hindus in other parts of India did not have a renaissance to a large extent but there were progressives who generally were affiliated with the Communist movement.

About the Muslims of Bengal I find that there have been Muslim Communists there as well like the veteran CPI-M leader Hannan Mollah. There would been quite a few Muslims in the Naxal movement.

But maybe the Muslims in Bengal who follow caste system are the leftovers of the monarchic and feudal times.
