These year we are sending one of the finest teams ever to the Olympic games, and predictions state that we should obtain a high medal tally. Sports to look out for are track and field, cycling, swimming, boxing, gymnastics and rowing.

Here come the Brits....

Adam Peaty won gold and Jazz Carlin claimed a silver as Great Britain secured their first medals of the 2016 Olympics on day two in Rio.

Peaty, 21, smashed his own world record to win the 100m breaststroke in 57.13 seconds and end GB's 28-year wait for a men's Olympic swimming title.

Minutes later, Carlin won silver in the women's 400m freestyle.

"I did it for my country and that means so much for me," the City of Derby swimmer told BBC Sport after victory watched by parents Caroline and Mark.

Well done Adam and he broke the world record.

Within minutes, there was another medal on the board thanks to Carlin, who took silver as the USA's Katie Ledecky won in a world-record time.

The 25-year-old Welsh swimmer held off American Leah Smith in the final 50 metres to claim second.

"I can't believe it. I'm on the edge of tears," said Carlin, who missed out on selection for the London 2012 Games.

"I was in the pool room watching Adam and I had goosebumps on the block.

"To see your team-mate achieve a new world record and become Olympic champion right before you swim definitely got me pumped up."

Well done Jazz for taking silver in the 400m.

More success.

Edward Ling in the trap shooting, he has secured a bronze medal. Well done mate. I couldn't stop laughing when he said he needed to leave as soon as possible because of the harvest (he is a farmer) :p:

As he spoke of the response of his father – who has also acted as his coach throughout his career – Ling’s voice cracked. But then it was an emotional moment for the 33 year old. After finishing 21st in this shotgun discipline in London, 25th in Athens and missing out competing in Beijing altogether, finally he made it to the podium in the sport that is something of a family obsession. His wife Abbey is a three time British champion, while his 16 year old brother Theo has just won bronze in the European junior championships.

Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow produced a great final dive to win one of two Olympic bronze medals for Great Britain on day three in Rio.

The pair's 10m synchro success and Ed Ling's bronze in the trap shootingtook Britain's tally to four and put them 10th in the medal table.

I would just like to thank our girls in the rugby sevens who just missed out on a medal, and our boxers lawrence, Galal, and Anthony who lost to the current world champions in all their respective weight classes. You did us proud lads.

The boys got silver in the 400m relay. Well done Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott, Dan Wallace and James Guy. We also beat the Aussies hahahaha.

Great Britain won two swimming silver medals on day four of the Olympics thanks to Siobhan-Marie O'Connor and the men's 4x200m freestyle relay team.

O'Connor broke the British record as she finished behind Hungary's Katinka Hosszu in the 200m individual medley.

Jack Laugher and Chris Mears won Great Britain's first ever Olympic diving gold medal with victory in the men's synchronised 3m springboard at Rio 2016.

The pair produced a sparkling display to add the Olympic title to their Commonwealth and European crowns.

The Britons scored a total of 454.32 to end China's hopes of a clean sweep of diving golds in Rio.

Qin Kai and Cao Yuan had to settle for bronze behind the United States.

It was the first diving event in Rio where China have failed to win gold.

Laugher, 21, and Mears, 23, broke down in tears inside the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre when their victory was confirmed by China's faltering final dive.

The pair led the standings from the end of round three, showing remarkable composure to continue setting the pace and then execute a brilliant final dive under pressure.

Another medal for the UK in trap shooting! This time it's Steven Scott, well done mate!

Great Britain's Steven Scott beat compatriot Tim Kneale to win the bronze medal in the men's Olympic double trap shooting event.

Scott's perfect score of 30 against Kneale's 28 secured Britain their second Rio shooting medal, after Ed Ling's trap bronze on day three.

"I can't describe what this means, but I've worked my butt off," Scott said.

Kuwaiti Fehaid Aldeehani beat Italy's Marco Innocenti 26-24 in the gold medal final at the Olympic Shooting Centre.

One of our youngest olympians has secured gold today. Go Joe Clark! Fantastic performance in the Kayak. The dude can paddle for the planet hahahaha.

Great Britain's Joe Clarke produced a stunning final run to snatch gold in the kayak K1 at the Rio Olympics.

The 23-year-old British number one from Staffordshire qualified third fastest for the final but posted a time of 88.53 seconds to take first place.

Slovenia's Peter Kauzer finished 0.17 seconds behind the Briton, with Czech Jiri Prskavec, who picked up a penalty, taking bronze.

I thought if it goes to plan I could come away with a medal but to be Olympic champion it is something you dream about

Clarke's victory gave Great Britain their second gold of the Rio Olympics.

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "Everything pieced together so nicely, I can't put it into words. I knew I was capable but to put down that run in the Olympic final, it is a dream come true.

"It is hard to put it into words how much work has gone into this. I have spent a lot of time here, I know this course like the back of my hand and it has paid off.

"There has been lots of ups and downs but it is just fantastic.

"When I woke up I struggled to have breakfast I was so nervous with all the emotions. I thought if it goes to plan I could come away with a medal but to be Olympic champion it is something you dream about.

We have our first medal from the fighting sports. It's judo and it's the lovely Scottish lass Sally Conway. Well done sweetheart, I cheered you all the way.

Briton Sally Conway defeated Austria's Bernadette Graf to win the -70kg judo bronze medal.

The 29-year-old scored a single yuko to beat Graf 1-0 in the first bronze medal match in the weight category.

Conway had earlier beaten world champion Gevrise Emane of France but was beaten by Colombia's Yuri Alvear for the right to fight for gold.

The Bristol-born judoka won bronze for Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"It hasn't sunk in," she told BBC Sport. "I knew if I was going to come away with a medal I would have to put in my best performances.

"I'm not from Brazil but the crowd have been awesome. I just want to thank everyone."

Conway suffered shoulder ligament damage during her second-round defeat at London 2012 and had to have surgery.

"This has been my dream since London," she added. "I can't put it into words."

Great Britain's Gemma Gibbons, who won judo silver at London 2012, tweeted: "She's only gone and done it.

"Absolutely amazing from Sally Conway. Our Olympic medallist Miss Conway."
