Here come the Brits....

Adam Peaty won gold and Jazz Carlin claimed a silver as Great Britain secured their first medals of the 2016 Olympics on day two in Rio.

Peaty, 21, smashed his own world record to win the 100m breaststroke in 57.13 seconds and end GB's 28-year wait for a men's Olympic swimming title.

Minutes later, Carlin won silver in the women's 400m freestyle.

"I did it for my country and that means so much for me," the City of Derby swimmer told BBC Sport after victory watched by parents Caroline and Mark.

Well done Adam and he broke the world record.

Within minutes, there was another medal on the board thanks to Carlin, who took silver as the USA's Katie Ledecky won in a world-record time.

The 25-year-old Welsh swimmer held off American Leah Smith in the final 50 metres to claim second.

"I can't believe it. I'm on the edge of tears," said Carlin, who missed out on selection for the London 2012 Games.

"I was in the pool room watching Adam and I had goosebumps on the block.

"To see your team-mate achieve a new world record and become Olympic champion right before you swim definitely got me pumped up."

Well done Jazz for taking silver in the 400m.

Our boys and girls are not doing bad, though there are some medal hopefuls who didn't perform as expected. However overall they are doing OK. We should be among the top 3 or 4 at the medal tables at the end of the games like we did this previous 2 Olympics, securing our place again as Europe's leading sports power. :)

Great Britain won a fourth gold medal in Rio when the men's cycling sprint team retained their title on the day Katherine Grainger became the country's most decorated female
Olympian.

Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner defeated New Zealand to move GB to eighth in the medal table.

Earlier, Grainger and Victoria Thornley secured double sculls silver.

GB also took silver in the inaugural men's rugby sevens and the men's canoe double C2 as Britain reached 16 medals.

That total is one ahead of the number won at London 2012 after as many days of competition.

The rugby sevens team lost 43-7 to a brilliant Fiji side, who earned their first Olympic medal of any colour.

Japan's Kohei Uchimura, dominant in the event since 2009, retained his title and Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev won silver after an error on his final apparatus.

Britain's Nile Wilson finished in eighth place in his first Olympics.

Heather Stanning and Helen Glover retained their Olympic title from London 2012 in the women's pair final.

World champions Glover and Stanning, who won Britain's first gold of the London Games, led from the start and they finished 1.2 seconds clear of New Zealand in a time of seven minutes 18.29 seconds.

The pair are now unbeaten in 39 races, a run that stretches back five years.

Glover said: "The pressure was immense. London was a home games and there was nothing more special but this is defending a title - it means so much."

The men's four - Alex Gregory, Moe Sbihi, George Nash and Constantine Louloudis - had all won at least an Olympic medal before.

Nash said: 'We played a full hand today and came out top – it was an epic epic row.'

Glover and Stanning completed the 2,000m course in a time of 7.18.29, with New Zealand more than a second behind on 7.19.53.

The men completed the race in 5:58.61, almost two seconds in front of the Australians.

Louloudis had exhausted himself so much he was unable to get out of the boat for at least 90 seconds after it reached the side.

Bryony Page has won trampoline silver to become the first British woman to claim an Olympic medal in the event.

Page, 25, was beaten to gold by 0.425 points as Canada's Rosannagh MacLennan won a second successive Olympic title with a score of 56.465.

World champion Li Dan of China took bronze, while Britain's other finalist, Katherine Driscoll, came sixth.

"I can't believe I've won an Olympic medal. I'm just so happy," said a clearly emotional Page.

"I had no idea it was a medal but my performance was the best I could have done, that is why I was so happy, that all the training and hard work had paid off.

"I am so happy I got to share the final with Kat (Driscoll), one person would have been history and we got two [in the final]."

Prior to winning Olympic silver, Page's highest career finish was fifth at the 2015 world championships in Denmark.

Trampoline made its Olympic debut in 2000 and this is the first time British women have reached the final.

More success, our Wiggo, yes Bradley Wiggins has won medal number 8, in the team pursuit, and it's a gold colour. Well done Bradley, along with teammates Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, and Owain Doull. The world record was smashed and yet again, we beat our Aussies cousins hehehe. The UK is a cycling superpower.

Cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins became the first Briton to win eight Olympic medals as GB claimed three golds and three silvers on day seven in Rio.

Wiggins now has five golds, one silver and two bronzes to surpass fellow cyclist Sir Chris Hoy's tally of seven.

The 36-year-old cyclist combined with Ed Clancy, Owain Doull and Steven Burke to complete the 4km race in three minutes 50.265 seconds to secure Britain's seventh gold of the Games.

"When you have guys like that it makes your life easier," said Wiggins.

It's rowing and boy do I have great news here.

First our lovely girls secured silver in the 8 person team event. Well done Melanie Wilson, Frances Houghton, Polly Swann, Jessica Eddie, Olivia Carnegie-Brown, Karen Bennett and Zoe Lee, you looked great out there!8-)

Great Britain's women's eight won their first Olympic medal, taking silver in the rowing behind the United States.

The crew of Katie Greves, Melanie Wilson, Frances Houghton, Polly Swann, Jessica Eddie, Olivia Carnegie-Brown, Karen Bennett and Zoe Lee held off Romania on the line.

Great Britain were last at the halfway point but moved through the field in the second 1,000 metres.

For Great Britain, urged on by cox Zoe de Toledo, a first Olympic medal comes after a fourth-placed finish at the 2015 World Championships.

"At 500m to go I thought we were going to win," Swann told BBC Sport. "I believed with every stroke we had what it took. It does not take away from this silver, it is incredible.

"These girls are strong, sassy, inspirational and I am so proud of them."

Before the Games there was some speculation that the British eight, the European champions, could have been joined by Katherine Grainger and Vicky Thornley when their double scull boat was dissolved.

However, the existing team went on to win World Cup silver behind the US and each member out-performed Grainger and Thornley at unofficial trials.

That led Grainger and Thornley to revive their double sculls boat - the silver they won on Thursday making Grainger Great Britain's most decorated female Olympian - with the eight then creating their own piece of history.

They were more than two seconds behind the US, holding off Romania by only 0.12 seconds.

"We have worked so hard to get here," said Eddie. "But it is not just for us it is for everyone who has rowed in the women's eight in the last 20 years.

"They have tried to do this and we have done this for them."

Back to cycling,

Well done girls, what can I say! You got gold in the women's team pursuit, you broke the world record and you beat the USA, wooooooooh! We are so proud of you.:yahoo::victory:

2012 golden girl Laura Trott is Great Britain 's heroine once more after storming to a history-making third Olympic gold medal in the team pursuit.

Team GB quartet Trott, Joanna Rowsell-Shand, Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald set the world record in qualifying fastest for tonight's final in a blistering 4:12.152 seconds.

But they saved the best for last blitzing the United States in the final to break their own record again blasting round to a new best time of 4.10.236.

Becky James took silver for Great Britain in the women's keirin with a late surge down the back straight.

Elis Ligtlee of the Netherlands led from the front to win gold, with Australian Anna Meares in third.

James, 24, missed the London Games and then had the best part of 18 months out with a knee injury and a cancer scare.

She was last with one lap to go but found a way around the outside to force her way into second on the line to win Britain's fourth medal on the track.

It was a second medal in two Olympic kierins for GB after Victoria Pendleton won the event in London - where it made its debut.

The silver medal came just minutes after Laura Trott became the first British woman to win three gold medals as she won team pursuit gold with Joanna Rowsell-Shand, Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald in a new world record time.

James told BBC One: "I can't believe it happened.

"I came in with good form and I love the keirin and I love racing. Once I got through the first round I just wanted to enjoy the day. I was at the back and was just thinking 'when do I go, when do I go?'

"It was so special, I have 10 of my family here - my mum has never been on a long-haul flight before.

"I have had so much support from British Cycling, it has been a tough two years and I couldn't have done it without everyone's help."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/36688105

We are now at number 3 in the medal table, with 26 medals and only China and the US ahead. With track and field just starting, let's hope our guys and girls come through. There are lots of prospects still to bloom.

Hopefully we will retain that 3rd place or at worse 4th place like we have during these past Olympics. I believe we should be 3rd at the end of the games, fingers crossed.
Andy Murray is playing tennis final tomorrow after beating Japan's nishikori in the semi's , he will now go against del Portro, hopefully he will retain his olympic Title once again adding another gold to our tally. Plus we are already assured of another gold medal @waz , as Jason Kenny joins Callum Skinner in the men's sprint final , so It will be an all-British battle for gold tomorrow.

Oh yeh lol! Nice bro, all British final. Man Mike I'm so hyped, we are seriously showing the world what we are made of. Love what the athletes are doing. My prayers are with them.

.
Just sensational from Mo Farah, the first British athlete ever to win three gold medals on the track. If the true test of a great athlete is how they perform on the big occasion then Farah is right up there with the very best.
