Britain kills 'Islamic State' militants in Syria drone strike: Cameron
British forces used a drone strike in Syria to kill three 'Islamic State' militants, including two Britons, the country's prime minister says. It's the first time the country has carried out such an attack in Syria.

British Prime Minister David Cameron told the country's parliament on Monday that a remotely piloted Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft had carried out the strike on the 'Islamic State' ('IS') stronghold of Raqqa in northern Syria. It struck a vehicle in which British 'Islamic State' ('IS) members Reyaad Khan and Ruhul Amin were traveling, killing them alongside one unidentified person.

"There was a terrorist directing murder on our streets and no other means to stop them," Cameron said, adding that no civilians were harmed.

He said it was the first time in modern times that a British military asset had been used to conduct a strike in a country it was not at war with. Britain's parliament was not consulted in advance of the attack. However, Cameron said the strike was "entirely lawful" and the attorney general had been consulted. He added that the threat made this act of "self-defense" necessary.

"Both Junaid Hussain and Reyaad Khan were British nationals based in Syria who were involved in actively recruiting ISIL sympathizers and seeking to orchestrate specific and barbaric attacks against the West, including directing a number of planned terrorist attacks here in Britain such as plots to attack high profile public commemorations," Cameron said, using another acronym for the 'IS' militant group, which has taken over a vast area of territory spanning parts of Syria and Iraq. There was no information to indicate what had happened to Junaid Hussain, the other British national cited by Cameron.

Military first for Britain

Until the attack, which was not part of United States-led coalition efforts against 'IS' in Syria, Britain had not participated in military actions as part of Syria's four-and-a-half-year war. But it has been involved in anti-'IS' bombing in Iraq and flies drones over Syria to gather intelligence.

Cameron, however, reiterated his promise to seek approval from parliament before joining coalition airstrikes in Syria.

On Monday, Cameron also announced that Britain would take in 20,000 Syrian refugees over the next five years from camps in countries neighboring Syria.

Sky poll: 46% of people support sending troops against IS

By Alistair Bunkall, Defence Correspondent

Almost half of the UK public would support sending British troops into Syria to fight Islamic State, according to a new poll carried out by Sky News.

The extraordinary finding comes as the Government is preparing to ask Parliament for authorisation to expand the campaign from Iraq to include Syria.

The polling contradicts the general wisdom that the country is war-weary after long conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The survey asked people whether they would back sending British soldiers into Syria to fight IS as part of a wider coalition campaign.

Of those interviewed, 46% of respondents said they would support "boots on the ground", while 31% were against any such operation.

two Britons had been killed in an airstrike by a British drone in Syria.

Although Parliament is yet to authorise RAF strikes in Syria, David Cameron justified the action as being in the interests of UK national security.

Speaking on the anniversary, Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has hinted that the Government would still like to extend airstrikes to Syria.

"ISIL are in both Iraq and Syria and they don't recognise the border," he said.

“But we've made it very clear that if we extend any operation to Syria, we would have to come back to Parliament and make the case and obtain fresh authority."

These new survey results show a big shift in public opinion.

In 2013, YouGov polling showed that most people opposed missile strikes. Now 56% of Britons believe that military action would be of benefit to the Syrian people. This could, in part, be a reaction to the refugee crisis affecting Europe.

About 47% of people questioned said further military action in Syria could be harmful to UK interests.

Sky Data interviewed a nationally representative sample of 1,002 Sky customers online between 18-20 September 2015. Data weighted to the profile of the population.

Even our people are now in favor of more intervention against these Islamic extremists scums.

Well there is an argument that the Islamic State is not a "country" in the traditional sense.

And Raqqa is currently the de facto capital city of the Islamic State.

Yes that will make it easier and less controbersial for us to strike them anytime in Syria from now on. Guess our neq military base in Bahrain (and others in negotiation) os to better control/manage our operations in syria/Iraq and the region, since our base in Cyprus is kind of far from syria and Iraq

.
And can you even imagine that some leftists try to file a case against this?

Well done Britain :enjoy:
Now if only Cameron would come to his senses & start supporting Assad

Lool don't mind those leftist, they are just confused hypocritical people. Our political establishments don't really give a shit about what these leftists might think(though they try and act like they do for political reasons, to show they care. lol). So expect our airstrikes to continue unabated or maybe even intensify even more these coming months/years. The message should be clear for these Muslim Islamic terrorists: Mess with Britain and we will haunt you wherever you try to hide around the world, doesn't matter which country or where you might think you are safe.. :D

Well done Britain :enjoy:

NO... NO... and NO. Assad with his Islamic mullah buddies in Iran openly supported these same terrorists groups against our Troops in Iraq, now that Karma has come back to bite them, you want us to help Assad? lol Wont happen we will strike ISIS when our interests are threatened, but allow the others to take care of Assad, Let him and his anti western Iranian buddies learn their lessons. lol So we will be watching in the skies like we have been doing and picking our targets when we deem fit.:pop:

I will like to see this our baby in action.

You Di realize that without assad we are talking about a destabilized Syria which will become a jihadi manufacturing unit
Also that's a overkill for those scums you should only use dumb boms to target them

.
Air strikes won't do anything at all to even damage these groups. To stop them u need to do it the old fashioned way. But on the other hand, we've seen the results of NATO and U.S. training in Iraq and Afghanistan.

.
Drone strike is the worst fear of terrorist. You can hear them but you can't see them. What a way to kill a terrorist, he gets terrorised before he meets the Devil.

.
Did cameron sleep with his dead piggy before attacking isis.
