I'm sorry but this is 'meterological study' by great Chinese scientists and it is unbecoming that the US shoot it down. It is a pure coincidence that best places for such studies are above missile bases, army bases and so on.

I hope it wasn't an alien probe. From the description it seems to be a silverish grey , cylindrical object that did not hover and had no propulsion. Hopefully it was just another balloon. Last thing we need is angry aliens.
