BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 A.M.) – The Russian Ministry of Defence has released information stating that Israeli forces were responsible for attacking the Syrian military’s T-4 airbase in eastern Homs province on early Monday morning.

According to the Russian MoD, two Israeli F-15 warplanes were involved in the attack against the Syria’s T-4 military airport, having fired missiles at the site from Lebanese airspace

Furthermore, the Russian MoD claims that eight missiles were fired by Israeli aircraft (compared to earlier reports of 20 missiles being used in the attack) of which Syrian air defense units were able to intercept five; of the three missiles that did reach the T-4 airbase, all struck its western side.

Israeli military authorities are still yet to comment on the strikes.

Russia is certainly not going to escalate against US or Israel, unless said countries (foolishly) decide to attack actual Russian assets in the theater. I'm pretty certain that avenues of communication exist between the parties, so as to make sure that something like this does not accidentally happen.

On the other hand, Russias' intervention in the conflict pretty much ensures that US and Israel cannot really do much against the Assad regime either. Which also means that the attacks we do see are more a matter of posturing/PR rather than legitimate military operations under a comprehensive intervention strategy for the war.

This was always the case with resource-rich arrogant muslims ... We were always the pawn in the greater game ,,, Dont you remember how these countries were created to destroy unity of muslims under Ottomans, they were all traitors, just like we have landlords (traitors at the time british raj) ... They were awarded the land to divide muslims and now mission is accomplished ... Not in distant future remianing muslim countries will be consumed in war between Iran and KSA ... (I think Egypt and Turkey will also destroy themselves by engaging in that war)

We can only pray that Pakistan behaves intelligently and keep herself out of this power struggle ...

For Russia, Assad is a pawn, the moment Israel ensures that she will protect Russian intrest in the region Russia will open Syria for Israel ... Remember Israel is a non-Nato state and in near future there are fair indications that it will be working independently and they no longer require US support for handling Arabs

I don't really see this happening. I agree that the Russia/Assad regime relationship is profoundly lopsided, and that Russia would not shy away from a peace solution that would run somewhat contrary to the maximality of Assad's interests.
Letting Israel in to shape the region as a buffer is a no-no though. There are no strategic imperatives that Russia can service by doing that. Actually, doing the exact opposite of what you said fits both their MO and end-game better, assuming that you abide by the mere fact that all players are rationally guided by their self-interests when shaping and enacting policy.

where are those Iranis and Jew-hating-ignorant-Pakistani members here, who were rejoicing when Israeli F16 was shot down few weeks back. Certainly it didn't deter Israelis to bomb Syria. Israelis are just too smart and brave.
