Reason FB survive and other similar plate forum (High-five, orkut, MySpace) didn’t, because #1 suker burger ability to get money for his venture (community guidance/Deep pockets). #2. His willingness to work with govt to tailor his plate-forum for data gathering services.

It’s like some of the major US Airlines, banks and car manufacturers, that keep getting govt contracts to keep them afloat, and free money bail out after every crash, cuz they serves a certain purpose, like a state institution. Chinese are following similar strategy with their tech firms and manufacturing sector, but US blame them being part of Chinese govt and ban them.

I'd rather 2.85Billion people chatting with friends and relatives without spending a nickel than 2.85 Billion people forking over hard earned wages to some stupid big oil company or some other conglomerate.

How can you complain about a company like Facebook who is sucking money out of big companies deeppockets directly for once in advertising fees instead of ordinary people's pockets.

I used to work for a company that spied on people far more intrusively than the government...it was a company junk mailers/robocallers used to get specifically targeted lists. I know all about data collection. They had a supercomputer in the basement crunching people's data...and this was in the early 1990's.

I'm not naming it. They are still around but they got clobbered in the dotcom bubble burst. I highly doubt they can afford a supercomputer anymore.

They gathered medical records, prescription info, credit card charges, and any other angle they could find.

You could run a query like "Show me 25,000 people who buy their gas at Shell, are on Lozol, make over $100,000 a year, traveled to the Caribbean in the last 3 years, etc.

From 1993 to 2004 I didn't use credit cards often..to avoid junk mail/calls.
