Breaking: Google pulls Huawei’s Android license, forcing it to use open source version

. . . .
Google has cut phone maker Huawei off from some updates to the Android operating system, Reuters reports.

New smartphones made by the company will also lose access to Google's app store and software such as Gmail, the news agency's story says.

Huawei declined to comment and Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the BBC.

What services precisely will be severed is still being discussed at Google, said Reuters, citing an unnamed source.

Huawei can still use the version of the Android operating system available through the open source license.

OMG!!!:eek::eek: Without Android what are they gonna do? I think the gloves have come off.
Huawei can access Androids open sourced codes but NO access to proprietary google apps, services and libraries for huawei!

And you do know how important Google services are for regular users...

. .
Huawei is officially dead if that is true.

This is unfortunate... I was rooting for Huawei.

I think this is temporary.

It is to show NATO countries that no matter what Huawei promises them now the Chinese government can easily lean on them hard enough to do their bidding.

Trump will say "I just called up Google and made them an offer they can't refuse".

Time to create an attractive alternative to both Apple and Google closed markets.

Chinese people are intelligent and resilient, I am sure something good will come out of this.

There are still a lot of Chinese brands doing well in US market/global market. Like One+, Xiamo, and Lenevo(motorola line).

i read somewhere that Huawei has already created alternative to android but they didn't announce it yet, the biggest problem is always the App Stores and Cloud infrastructure, Microsoft's mobile division failed because they could not attract developers for their app store. Samsung has created Tizen which is very similar to Android, maybe Huawei can licence that, but Samsung might also get in trouble for that.

China should ask this question, if there is a military conflict, will China be able to sell those treasuries during a war? How about after a war?

Imagine what China can do with 3 trillion Euros/USD in treasuries and reserves, spend 500B in PMs, save 2T to buy more precious metals in the future, spend 500B in military expenses. Back the yuan with gold.

How is 7000 J-20Bs for 500B.

The problem is the app adoption which currently exclusively lies with Google or android.

The only other alternative is that Huawei puts aside $30 Billion dollars backed by the Chinese government to get all the app developers such as Skype, WhatsApp, snapchat, twitter etc. To make apps for the Unix/Linux based fork of Android.

Then and only then will Huawei will have an alternative OS platform... But this will be difficult because Nokia, BlackBerry, and Microsoft tried this and failed miserably.
Only BiG Money $$$ can make this happen.
