Breaking: 1,200 Turkish troops deployed in Mosul, Iraq

There is some news about Iraqi government with the Governor of mosul agreement to let some turks troops with artillery to help them get mosul from isis back.

Now Iraqis aren't happy with this news and they ask the government to do something or else.

I think it is a good move any way mosul is iraqi city.

The most important is that I didn't read any of the PMF leaders reaction to this but so far Alabaadi gave them the ok. ( Turkey )

New developments, this doesn't seem pretty routine.

‘Incursion’: Baghdad demands Turkey withdraw ‘training’ troops from northern Iraq — RT News

The Iraqi government has demanded that Ankara withdraw the more than 100 Turkish forces that entered Iraq with tanks and artillery for alleged “training” of troops near Islamic State-occupied Mosul. Baghdad stressed the unsanctioned move was a breach of its sovereignty.
The Iraqi foreign ministry said in a statement early on Saturday that the Turkish troops were acting in violation of the country’s sovereignty and demanded the forces withdraw immediately. “Around one regiment armoured with tanks and artillery” has entered the northern Nineveh area, according to the statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s media office.

“The Iraqi authorities call on Turkey to respect good neighbourly relations and to withdraw immediately from the Iraqi territory,” the statement said, stressing that the Turkish troops entered “without the request or authorization from the Iraqi federal authorities,” which is a “serious breach of Iraqi sovereignty.”

The foreign ministry called Turkey’s move “an incursion,” Reuters reported.

According to the agency’s source, the US-led anti-Islamic State coalition was aware of the Turkey's move.

Turkish soldiers have reached the Mosul Bashiqa region. They are there as part of routine training exercises. One battalion has crossed into the region,” the source told Reuters without revealing the exact number of troops.

He added that the Turkish forces are “training Iraqi troops.”

However, according to two US defense officials quoted by Reuters, Turkey’s deployment is not part of the efforts of the US-led coalition battling Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

On Friday, 130 Turkish soldiers equipped with heavy weapons were deployed at a military base on the outskirts of the city of Mosul, which is currently held by IS, according to the Daily Sabah newspaper.

According to Cumhuriyet newspaper, the number of the deployed Turkish troops amounts to at least 150.

The town of Bashiqa is located about 10 kilometers northeast of Mosul.

Mosul, Iraq’s second biggest city, was seized by Islamic State in June 2014 and has been fully governed by militants ever since. Moreover, the extremist group captured large stockpiles of weapons and ammunition that were stored in the city.

In the collapse of Mosul, we lost a lot of weapons,” Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in an interview with Iraqiya state TV in June. “We lost 2,300 Humvees in Mosul alone,” he added.

Iraq demands withdrawal of Turkish forces near Mosul

Iraq said on Saturday the entry of "around one armed battalion" of Turkish troops to the northern Nineveh area was a violation of its sovereignty and called on the forces to withdraw immediately, according to the prime minister's media office.

The foreign ministry in a statement flashed on state television described the Turkish activity is "an incursion" and rejected any military operation that was not coordinated with the federal government in Baghdad.

A Turkish security source said on Friday that several hundred Turkish troops had been deployed to provide training for Iraqi troops near Mosul, a city of more than one million people which Islamic State militants overran in July 2014.

Is Turkey okay with Iraqi Kurds?

''Peshmerga learned street fighting from Turkish military experts: commander
The training from Turkish military experts had significant impact on Kurdish fighters' capability, says senior Kurdish military official.

A key Kurdish peshmerga commander said they achieved to seize the nothern Iraqi town of Sinjar from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) after taking training and advices from Turkish military experts over “street fighting."

“The training that we received from Turkish military experts had a big impact on our victory in the offensive," General Kahraman Kemal, commander of the Kurdish Peshmerge Operation Unit, said in his interview with Turkey's Yeni Şafak newspaper.

“Their advice on how to use mortar bombs had a great impact on the Sinjar operation," he said. "Their advices over street fighting have particularly played a decisive role in the clashes that the 7th peshmerge unit have been involved in the central areas of Sinjar."

Kemal said the training program is still ongoing in the military camp on the outskirts of Arbil for peshmerga to improve their ability to fight. “Turkish officers have tried to do everything so that the peshmerga will have a stronger fighting force."

The commander renewed his call for an increase in the number of Turkish officers sent on training missions. “We have requested Turkey to provide training to more peshmerga forces so that we can expand our military experience. We want more Turkish officers to be sent to give military training."

He also admitted that Kurdish peshmerga gained serious capability in the art of war and military tactics during these training programs. “Due to lack of sufficient experience, we were suffering a large number of losses at the begining of the battle with ISIL. But we are now able to get involved in street fighting and subdue ISIL militants more easily with the help of Turkish officers' trainings," he said.

The recapture of Sinjar comes as another major blow to ISIL.''

Where have all the chinese, russian, Indian, iranian trolls gone?

HAHAHA

Good. Finish those ISIS rats from that part of the world.

Why do guys think this would upset Iranians? If its training Iraqi Army, then it's great news, and I support it 100%. If it's for directly helping the Iraqi army fight ISIS, then it is FANTASTIC news, and I support it 200%. Specially if they are working with the Kurds, that's even better. Good relationships help our region, and improves stability.

However, if they came to Iraq, without the approval of the Iraqi government, then obviously that is a wrong move and should be condemned. Don't you guys agree with that?

Edit: Unfortunately, it seems the Iraqi government is not pleased.

Apparently the deployment came after a recent agreement between KRG and Turkey. The central government should sort it out with the Kurds instead of us, no?

Yes, they are our allies. In fact we do good business with them. If you ever visit Northern-Iraq , you will see that most of the buildings there are build by Turkish construction companies etc.. I've heard that apart from the language, you woudnt even notice that its a different country.

yes , Turkey has pretty strong economic relations with Iraqi Kurds

Sorry for my ignorance , whats the status of Turkey and Kurd relations . i thought Turkey labels Kurds as terrorists ! A little explanation will be helpful

Kurds are our brothers. We only have problems with separatist and terrorist organizations like the PKK and affiliates.
