Jaipur: The Rajasthan Government has launched a subsidised meal scheme 'Annapurna Rasoi', in 12 cities on Thursday to provide food at nominal rates to the underprivileged.

The scheme which was unveiled by state Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje at Jaipur also had Urban Development and Housing minister Shrichand Kriplani, BJP state president Ashok Parnami and Mayor Ashok Lahoti present at the occasion.

The scheme has initially been launched in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Baran, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and Jhalawar. It will be implemented in other cities within the next 6 months, Kriplani was quoted saying.

Under the scheme, breakfast will cost Rs 5 and lunch/dinner at Rs 8 for the underprivileged. However, the actual cost of a breakfast is Rs 21.70 and Rs 23.70 for a lunch/dinner. The difference will be borne by the government said Manjeet Singh, principal secretary, Local Self Department.

"The government will have to bear a financial burden of Rs 10 crore for 12 cities as the financial gap. This gap will be approximately 40 crore if the scheme covers all the urban areas of the state," he said.

The meal will be cooked and served by trained staff in 80 special vans.

Amma canteen is best and alot of states in India took her idea and implemented in their respective states .... even Pakistan can use such measures to help urban poor
Really good job. Pleased to know that :)

Amazing initiative by the Government. There should be similar steps taken by the Government of Pakistan as well... their schemes of sasti roti etc were more like scams.... but this sounds like a better idea

Amma & Kejriwal concept copied by Rajasthan CM, whose political strength is dwindling.

Indian Parliament has passed National Food Security Act, 2013 on 10th September, 2013 with the objective to provide for food and nutritional security in human life cycle approach, by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices to people to live a life with dignity. The existing Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households, which constitute the poorest of the poor, will continue to receive 35 Kgs of foodgrains per household per month.

32 States/UTs, namely Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhatisgarh, Daman & Diu, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir Andaman & Nicobar, Mizoram, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh are implementing the Act at present. Any Idea what the Menu includes ?

The scheme offers subsidised food for people across several categories. As per the government scheme, breakfast shall be made available at Rs 5 and nutritious food for Rs 8. The scheme is meant to offer subsidised food to labourers, rickshaw pullers, auto wallahs, employees, students, working women, old and disabled and needy people. In the first phase, subsidised food shall be made available in more than 10 districts, including Vasundhara's own constituency Jhalawar. The scheme is being implemented simultaneously in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Baran, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and Jhawlawar - Jhalarapatan.

Kindly try to see the video clip.

It's a good initiative but it's very difficult to find what's actually happening behind the scenes.
Maintaining quality of food will be a real challenge.

The video clip makes it clear that the whole thing will fail in 1 month.

No hygiene, small quantity of food, no facility to dispose waste, no water available to wash hand or vessel.

It won't be long before someone dies after eating from this place.
