SRINAGAR, India (AP) — Four Indian soldiers and three suspected militants were killed Sunday after rebels stormed a paramilitary camp in disputed Kashmir, officials said.

Gunmen in combat dress entered the camp near southern Lethpora village early Sunday firing guns and grenades at the sentry, said paramilitary spokesman Rajesh Yadav. He said soldiers inside the camp were responding to the attack, which left at least three soldiers wounded.

The initial assault left one paramilitary soldier dead and two wounded. Police said reinforcements of army soldiers and counterinsurgency police encircled the camp and were exchanging gunfire with the assailants.

In the subsequent fighting, two more paramilitary soldiers were killed and another soldier died of cardiac arrest while being evacuated along with many others who were trapped in the camp's residential buildings.

Yadav said troops recovered the bodies of three suspected militants and they were searching a building in the camp for another militant.

The camp is located along the strategic highway connecting the Kashmir Valley with India and close to the chain of plateaus famed for Kashmir's saffron fields. Besides counterinsurgency operations, the camp also serves as a training center for soldiers.

No rebel group fighting against Indian rule immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Anti-India unrest has simmered in Kashmir since a popular rebel leader was killed over a year ago. Apart from mass anti-India protests and clashes often leading to the deaths of protesters, dozens of young Kashmiri men have joined rebel groups, leading to a surge in attacks. The Indian government responded by stepping up anti-rebel operations.

Over 200 militants, 75 police and soldiers, and at least 40 civilians have died in the violence this year, the deadliest since 2010.

Nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan each administer part of Kashmir, but both claim the Himalayan territory in its entirety. Rebel groups demand that Kashmir be united either under Pakistani rule or as an independent country.

Anti-India sentiment runs deep in Kashmir's mostly Muslim population and most people support the rebels' cause against Indian rule. Nearly 70,000 people have been killed in the uprising and the ensuing Indian military crackdown since 1989. India accuses Pakistan of arming and training the rebels, which Pakistan denies.

Why do people feel the need to insult the average soldiers fighting for their country? Not every single soldier is involved in any crimes nor are they in any position to make policy decisions. Most soldiers go wherever their countries' send them, also, it is most likely that he was injured when he suffered cardiac arrest.

.
I am a bit confused with the thread heading - the indian soldier was brave because he died of a cardiac arrest? So based on this logic, every person who dies of cardiac arrest is 'brave'? Doesn't make sense. Wouldn't it make more sense if the indian soldier died of cardiac arrest because he was shi.t scared?

Isis fighters are innocent too. they just execute orders. actual criminals are those who give them orders.
isn't it what you want to say?

I never said Indian soldiers are innocent. No soldier really is after what they have to do / go through. I am just saying it is highly unprofessional to insult a uniformed fighting member of any nations Army as long as he has not been proven to be involved in any stupid things.

As for ISIS, their whole mind set is different, they are not fighting for their motherland. Nor are they really fighting for their loved ones. Most of them are after a quick entrance in to heaven because they live *$*£%ed up lives.

And you are free to do what you like, don't have it within me to insult another soldier.

Sudden loss of blood due to a trauma such as that induced by a gunshot wound (Non Fatal Area) can most definitely result in Cardiac Arrest.
Meaning death due to heart attack during evacuation of an injured individual.
Probably what is being implied here as opposed to dieing due to being scared.

It's a feel good thing, believe me. No one in the military thinks like this, only the keyboard warriors here.
They forgoe the reality that if you abuse theirs they abuse ours, it's a never ending loop. A uniformed soldier is a uniformed soldier nothing more or less.

I believe there's sarcasm involved in the title to mock indian nationalists.

Same here, there should be a ban on celebration of casualties of any side, military custom of svc are above what is being preached here, most of the stuff being posted is laughable the rest regrettable, while ever so often you find a post posted by a respectable member worth reading.
