as option say i don't like Falcon nickname for block-3 because F-16 has that nick is FIGHTING FALCON, we have unified name for whole block-3 series, i don't like your suggestion that to export different countries as you refer block-3 have different nicks, How about for JF-17B STRIKE THUNDER AND FOR BLOCK -3 THUNDER STRIKE bro

I agree the designation should be a single option (even among exports), as not to over complicate matters. but you also have to agree the name flip between the single seat and twin seat options can also lead to confusion.

If the JF-17B model is going to serve as a dedicated Strike Platform, I agree Strike Thunder seems like a decent enough name.

When it comes to the Single Seat Fighter Model, though it should be a name that is unique but simple. ThunderStorm and Super Thunder are other options, but they may not convey the shift to a more Electronic warfare platform with modern Air to Air. How about ThunderBoss or ThunderKing or ThunderHawk? ThunderBolt, Rolling Thunder and Thunder Birds have already been used by the US.

Btw, Before the Gripen E or NG name was announced, the Swedish public called that variant the Super Gripen.

The other option is to Ditch the Thunder name and go to traditionally aggressive animal name names like Black Mamba.

How about Thunder Chief, unfortunately this nick was already used by USAF by their strike jet of late 50 and early 60s
Republic F-105 Thunderchief

But Thunder Strike has also useful meaning

Sir, have a look to my post earlier. Do you find this as a good enough reason..
I am assuming JF 17 blk 1 & 2 are known as thunder fighters..
So new block should be something that comes after thunder as in next level, maybe?
ThunderStorm maybe?

lightening>thunder>thunderstorm

JF 17-B could be ThunderStrike...

I'd love it if they give it a strong Urdu name....

Shaheen is the most obvious one, but we named our missile that. Ababeel is another one, yet again given to missile. Aqaab and Burraq are two spectacular ones but those are given to UAVs.

Baaz (falcon) is unused at this point.

Didn't see it earlier, You suggested it first. I'm just listing all the possibilities with Thunder in the name.
As with the earlier posts on this Thread, I think we should Either just adopt a suffix letter designation or drop the Thunder name all together for the Block III and pick a name from the Quran.

The JF-17 could be called "The Hud" or Hud-Hud, from Surah An-Naml

How about ThunderSpear or ThunderSword or ThungerGuard or ThunderShot or ThunderEye?
these are ordinary nickname for block-3 how about Indus Thunder or Thunder Strike, Thunder Strike means Thunder to be Strike

JF17 Block I , JF 17
JF17 Block 2 , JF 18 (Single Seat , Double Seat)
JF17 Block 3 , JF 19 (Single Seat , Double Seat)

JF17 Block I , JF 17
JF17 Block 2 , JF 18 (Single Seat , Double Seat)
JF17 Block 3 , JF 19 (Single Seat , Double Seat)
No, you're wrong JF-18 or 19 means not JF-17 but structurally/Mechanically different jet from JF-17 (new fighter Jet)

Reserve the word Strike for the Ground Attack Variant. Indus Thunder would be fine if it was just for us, but we need a universal name, for both at home and for export, so it appeals to customers as was the desire of the OP.

Adjectives that go with Thunder should be looked over. Something like "Fierce Thunder" or "Savage Thunder" or "Dreaded Thunder"

Thunder strike is most suitable nick for block-3 its also have different definition of Thunder to be strike for its Prey whether its air to air or air to ground (hint:multi role capability)
and Fierce is also used by Chinese for FC-1 and Savage Thunder would be nice but Savage is also nick name of K2 Savage Mountain

Let’s agree to disagree. I’m with you on Strike Thunder for the -B model, but I don’t agree on the thunder strike name for the multi role variant.
