The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile will be inducted into the Air Force in 2012, a top Defence Research and Development Organisation official said.

The missile has already been inducted into the army and navy, BrahMos Aerospace Managing Director and Chief Controller, DRDO, A Sivathanu Pillai, told reporters at Chunkankadai, near here.

The BrahMos missile, a joint venture of India and Russia, is the first such in the world, he claimed.

He said India on Thursday has Integrated missiles having the capability to travel 3500 km.

Research is on to develop missiles, using nanotechnology, with stealth properties, which cannot be identified by enemy radars, he added.

Pakistan have RAA'D air-launched cruise missile (ALCM). Its stealth and have range of 350 KM. It was inducted in 2008 in PAF Mirage Aircrafts.

The only edge BrahMos can have its Super Sonic Speed ...where as RAA'D is subsonic, but operational from last 3 years.

ISLAMABADakistan on Saturday successfully test fired a new Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) named Hatf-8 (Ra’ad)).


The indigenously developed Ra’ad (meaning "Thunder" in Arabic), with a range of 350 KMs for now, has been designed exclusively for launch from a variety of Pakistan’s air Platforms, providing these with a strategic stand off capability on land and at sea.

The missile has a low detection probability due to stealth design and materials used in its manufacturing. The Ra’ad can carry all types of warheads and has an accuracy comparable to Pakistan’s longer Babur cruise missile.

President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have congratulated the scientists and engineers involved in the development of the new national strategic capability. Pakistan’s defense will continue to be strengthened as an imperative of national security, they said, and assured all support to Pakistan’s strategic programme.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan, today conducted a successful Flight Test of the indigenously developed Air Launched Cruise Missile, Hatf-VIII (Ra’ad).

The missile test was conducted as part of the continuous process of improving the technical parameters of the weapon system. The Ra’ad Missile, with a range of over 350 km, has been developed exclusively for launch from Aerial Platforms.

This missile system has enabled Pakistan to achieve a greater strategic stand off capability on land and at sea. ‘Cruise Technology’ is extremely complex and has been developed by only a few countries in the world.

The state of the art Ra’ad Cruise Missile with Stealth Capabilities is a Low Altitude, Terrain Hugging Missile with high maneuverability, and can deliver nuclear and conventional warheads with great pinpoint accuracy.

The successful launch has been appreciated by the President, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee who have congratulated the scientists and engineers on their outstanding achievement.
