Border intruders won't be shot, Delhi tells Dhaka

. . .
Good move,
killing illegal migrants is not the answer. Killing for whatever reason is never the answer. Maybe a combination of non lethal weapons, and unmanned intruder alarms/sensors will do the trick. Better harnessing of technology will certainly help. Certainly the killing should stop.

I don't think anyone has any other opinion. No innocents should die, anywhere.

. .
BSF should be making use of the UAV's to track these intruders down.

i don't see why not. If not today due to financial constraints and because we need them more on the west and the north, then maybe tomorrow. technology will certain be of help.

. .
An utterly stupid move if this is a unilateral move form India's side ; it should have been taken in conjunction with a solid assurance from Dhaka that it would curb the illegal migration that happens into India.

They can't, the border is simply too long. No one can give that kind of assurance. The Soviets tried to keep their people in by building the Berlin wall and we know what happened. And the length of the Berlin Wall was a fraction of that of the Indo-Bangla border.

Fine ; now that the shooting will be stopped how will the illegal migrants be stopped ?

As bad as shooting innocents (or maybe a part of them) is, equally bad is letting them inside India. So what steps are being taken to address that ?

Without addressing that part also just this unilateral announcement is akin to shooting yourself in the foot.

india's relation are not smooth with nepal either with all those smuggling of currency taking place through nepal, then india's fear of nepali maoist, plane hijacking, terrorist infiltrations...u name it u 've got everything through nepal.only thing with indo-nepal and ind-bangladesh relation is that india is islamophobic hence it takes tough line with bangladesh and pakistan.

Yes these things happen thru Nepal. But are in small nos, if you compare it with Bangladesh.

Also citizens of Nepal are too too friendly with India. They are even part of our Armed Forces. And all these unsocial activities are done by others thru Nepal in most cases.

Basically, we have to monitor our own borders. Look at this in the light of Hispanic illegal crossings which have altered the demography of many border states of the USA and were a major factor in bringing Obama to power. Now USA is the top economy of the world and Mexico is no small economy with a GDP only marginally smaller than India's. Ultimately, illegal crossings into the US is the responsibility of the US. There are a number of non lethal means available, rubber bullets are not the only solution, nor are they the best solution available. Many unmanned intruder alarms are also available. Thermal imagery can detect humans creeping up to the border fence in pitch darkness. All these means are available to us. It is just that the govt has to recognise that illegal migration from BD is really a serious issue and commit the required resources to tackle it.

No, no dissolving of border, because then millions of hungry Indians will escape to our land.

No one is going to escape to your poor impoverished overcrowded nation. Your country is so densely populated , that in a few decades , the only place that you people will have to escape is the bay of bengal
We are not gonna allow any more border jumpers from your impoverished nation
