Boosting Pakistan's IT Industry: Initiative for Artificial Intelligence & Computing (PIAIC)

.
Yes for household income, it can be the case (propensity for adults of both genders in family unit to be in employment).

Last I looked at the detailed US census data regarding this, there were also lot of other correlated factors like average education level of the person, family size+composition, accrued investment flows etc.

looking at the universities faculty (engineering and business school), researchers at conferences, corporate executives & company founders Indians outnumber Pakistan by a vast margin (20 >> 1)

Why are we talking about Indians? Can we end this obsession please.

sorry to hijack the thread

for starters you have to look at your K-12 education system and focus on core skills

Start with ITES and then move into core IT.

core IT has been replaced with cloud computing/dev OPs in many cases. from my little experience offshoring is tricky in many cases.

As long as we rank above such countries like Denmark, Israel and Norway and just under US and UK......and you lot are below BD and Nigeria.....it tells its own story yet again.

Not to forget what the utility of some specific ranking is to a larger business in first place.

It's really pitiful the state you lot are in regarding this sector....but you can keep trying, wishing and hoping tho (instead of actually working to improve):

On topic, this is great initiative by Pakistan and hope it pays dividends in coming year.

Artificial intelligence require access to huge data and for this purpose we need our own search engine and huge databases to store data and monitor behaviors .Currently our IT professionals lack quality and they focus on short term methods to earn money and not provide good services to clients .I know many IT professional who ask their students to gather information and write thesis for their Phd and not do this on their own .Phd should not remain on papers only but should be based on real research

Bhai yeh na hi share kartay tu behtar tha it shows Pak even behind Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria :partay:
The blog is operated by indians.

Sorry was in bit of a rush for my flight, this type of data analysis is same as MRF cricket rating always tilted towards bhindians, so don't take it seriously. we don't need to be distracted by idiots from across eastern border who despise us and yet infest our forums like cretins, this forum requires a jumbo dose of "Zentel".

We need to focus in developing our own talent pool and the best place to start are schools.

@ps3linux @Verve Its in Karachi what u say join kar ln yaar mery munh main tu pani aa rahaa haii progs dekh dekh ky "artificial intelligence (AI), data science, cloud computing, edge computing, blockchain, and the internet of things (IoT)"""

Yaar keep this thread alive I am travelling for a few days once I am back will put some comparative data, due to my hobby and profession I have met most of the software houses in Isb/Rwp and Lahore, met the limited pool of data scientists primarily working in tellular companies/few hotels and I have taught couple of I.T subject like verilog in a good university (weekend program only). Few of the Unis I am very hopeful about or FAST-NU, NUST and GIK, not much experience of south but I think there would be a couple.

Software houses are primarily focused on data management/billing services, their prime playground is PC, some of them work on android/iOS but not in a big way. I met only two companies which are into serious IoT/embedded systems. Netsol is the third one, good thing is freelancers are increasing and so is the export the delta increase in software export by freelancers is exponential. Not many are working toward linux though.

Couple of weeks back bunch of young kids displayed their A.I algorithm in a Karachi expo to manage traffic through drones the idea though good was not unique. I remember few kids (probably from karachi) developed an app which used to combine picture of the person who took the snap with his friends and then it was adopted by all major software houses.

While I haven't seen too many brilliant ideas in software from Pakistan though "Careem" was by Pakistanis, but it will start soon. Number of DSL connections and 4G users in Pakistan as a percentage of population (what I remember) in among the top few in Asia

I keep mentioning A.I in my opinion are of two types one which are application specific algorithms and other which will pass turing test. First is no problem but we need to develop data scientists pronto not microshit based but python based. Will add more later....

Yet it was used to highlight how Indians are low IQ , copy paste programmers lmao

Perhaps we can take advantage of increase in freelancers. I think a good idea for government is to organize conferences of freelancers and help them form their own start-ups. At the same time, investors - including some of these industrialists protesting against taxes - can be invited to pitch in funding. This would be akin to "angel investors" or venture capitalists here in the US, who invest in small start-ups in places like Silicon Valley. We can try to re-create a similar environment here, a local Silicon Valley which ends up being a hub for innovative start-ups & venture capitalists to provide funding.
