A fresh bomb blast against Pakistan’s Special Forces has injured at least two personnel in the port city of Karachi, officials say.

The explosion occurred near a vehicle belonging to Pakistan’s Special Forces, known as Rangers, in Karachi's Qayyumabad area on Friday.

According to the Pakistani Dawn newspaper, the wounded were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

A Rangers' spokesman said the explosion had targeted a wing commander of the force who was travelling in the vehicle. He added that body parts were found from the site, which suggested that the explosion was carried out by a bomber.

On Thursday, a bomb explosion claimed the lives of at least 11 police officers and left some 50 others injured in Karachi. A police bus was the target of the bomb attack near the Razzaqabad police training college in the Shah Latif Town neighborhood.

Karachi has experienced a fresh wave of violence and targeted killings over the past few months.

On Wednesday, Rangers arrested 41 suspects during a targeted operation in the volatile city after they received a tip-off.

The city is home to numerous ethnic groups and has been hit by clashes between rival ethnic and political factions for the past two decades.

Militants in Pakistan have carried out numerous attacks against security forces as well as civilians and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country, despite frequent offensives by the Pakistani army.

Thousands of people have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in the so-called war against terrorism, according to local media.

KARACHI: A Rangers wing commander’s vehicle was targeted in a suicide attack in the Qayyumabad C area of Karachi on Friday, Express News reported.

The vehicle was travelling from Sea View onto Korangi Road when the incident occurred. Korangi’s SP Usman Bajwa confirmed that it was a suicide attack.

The suicide bomber was reportedly on foot and was not close to his target when he detonated the explosives.

The vehicle was damaged but police confirmed that Rangers personnel remained unharmed after the blast.

Police said that body parts – believed to be of the suicide bomber – were found near the site of the blast. The body parts have been taken to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center for DNA analysis.

Rangers and police have cordoned off the area and an investigation is ongoing.
