Chinese panel maker BOE had completed its first AMOLED panel deliveries to Apple for the iPhone by December 25, measuring 6.1 inches and numbering in the tens of thousands, tech industry research firm RUNTO said.

The screens will be used in both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models, RUNTO said, citing the supply chain.

The supply is being produced by BOE's two G6 flexible AMOLED production lines in Chengdu and Mianyang in concert, the report said, adding that a second shipment could still be completed by New Year's Day.

Previous media reports said that Apple's OLED iPhone shipments will rise to 160 to 180 million units in 2021.

Samsung Display will supply 130 million OLED panels, while BOE and LG Display are expected to supply 10 million and 40 million respectively. The BOE is believed to provide 20 million pieces.

A supply chain source told Jiemian.com on December 24 that BOE has officially passed Apple's screen validation and will start supplying OLED screen panels for iPhone 12 to Apple in December. However, BOE's public relations person replied that he was not aware of the situation.

It is worth mentioning that Korean media TheElec previously reported that BOE failed to obtain Apple's requirements for OLED screens for both certifications this year.

RUNTO said BOE was stuck on the reliability index of Foxconn's iPEG (innovation Product Enclosure Group business unit mainly engaged in iPhone case processing and assembly).
