BO celebrates completion of its purpose-built training centre in Sharqiyah Sands
A ceremony to signify the completion of Oman’s first purpose-built outdoor training centre was held at the Grand Hyatt Muscat on Sunday.
The event was held under the auspices of H H Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al Said, and in the presence of H H Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, patron of Outward Bound Oman, and Prince Andrew, Duke of York.
Located some 12km into the Sharqiyah Sands, the centre is the first of three being constructed to enable Outward Bound Oman (OBO) to work with much larger numbers of youth, and enhance talent in Oman.
With the ability to accommodate up to 60 people, and with fully equipped AV room, meeting rooms, four learning pods, equipment stores, a majlis and a medical room, the centre provides a training environment that is unique to Oman.
All wastewater is treated on-site, and a large solar array makes it Oman’s first building totally powered by solar energy. Designed by Muscat-based architects 23 Degrees North, the centre has already been nominated for international design awards.
