KABUL: An Afghan police official says two suicide bombers have struck near the home of a candidate running for president in the country’s April 5 elections.

The official says one attacker detonated his car and the other set off his explosives vest on Tuesday in the capital, Kabul, near the home of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.

The official, Sayed Gul Aga Hashmi, says police are hunting down a third suspect who was involved in the attack.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was hurt in the bombings.

The Taliban claimed in a statement to media that they were behind the blast, saying they targeted a Kabul election centre.

The insurgents have vowed to disrupt the April 5 elections, a vote that will choose Afghanistan’s next president and provincial council members.
