Yes, this is confirmed.

Please see below.
The blast ripped through Alferno Café’, situated in the basement of the building, at 11:17 am. The café was scheduled to be inaugurated a few days later. The owner, Moazzam Paracha, and over 20 workers were present in the café when the explosion occurred.

One worker, Adnan, told the police in his statement that a few days ago the owner had brought five gas cylinders, each weighing 45kgs, four of which were placed in the basement. On Friday night, the workers had complained of foul odour in the basement, suggesting possible leakage, he added. “My brother, Asif, lit a match-stick to smoke a cigarette which could have possibly triggered the explosion.” Asif also died in the explosion.
Also, no ball bearings, no IED chemicals/materials, no claims of responsibility, etc.

A friend of my colleague was at the "Bombay Chowpaty" next door having breakfast before the explosion. He is a friend of the owner of Bombay Chowpaty, both of them left just 5 minutes before the blast and while they were leaving they were asked by Mr. Paracha to join them in the under renovation restaurant as they were testing their menu. Both of them excused themselves and left, the explosion happened a few minutes after that. All the people who died were inside the building at the time of the explosion and most of their bodies were thrown out because of force of the blast. There are ac couple of points which prove it was not a terrorist act,

1. It was not a suicide bombing which is the preferred MO of terrorists to ensure maximum casualties.
2. Terrorists attempt to kill as many people as they can, hiding a bomb in a basement of an under construction
building does not serve their purpose. People who died were at the wrong place at the wrong time.

However this incident couldn't have happened at a worse time.

One more important thing to add. No one took the responsibility. So it is surely not act of terror.

. .
Terrorists have taken responsibility for accidents like plane crashes they read about in the papers. This was so obvious soon that was not an attack that they did not bother.

As many members have pointed out, here's a summary of the facts:

-testimony from employees about the leaky gas cylinders + the match that was lit to smoke a cigarette
-history of gas cylinder-related deaths in Pakistan (and I assume elsewhere --- though we really need to improve regulation)
-no claims of responsibility
-no ball bearings, nails, etc.
-no traces of chemicals used in IEDs found
-location and timing of blast (basement of under-construction building during non-peak hours)

Why aren't the news channels that so enthusiastically wanted it to be a bomb clarifying these points and closing this case?!

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Friday that the blast in Lahore's DHA area a day earlier was not an act of terror but an "accident", as forensic samples collected from the site had shown that the blast was a cylinder explosion.

Six samples collected from the building where the blast that killed 10 people took place did not contain traces of explosives, he told a news conference, quoting a forensics laboratory report.

"Yesterday's explosion was an accident and not a terrorist or explosives blast," he said.

He said the collected samples had hinted at a gas leakage and shown presence of cylinders in the building.

"We will take strict action against authorities involved in making substandard cylinders that led to this explosion," he said.

What a cover up ....

These are the leaky gas cylinders which are supposed to have caused the explosion right in front of Bombay Chowpati Z-block. But news channels are not clarifying that this was not an act of terror despite Govt. sources mentioning so.

What do you think gets more airtime

1) Bombing in heart of Lahore or

2) Industrial Accident No 152/2017?
Which will generate more hours of discussion

1) Quality control for LNG cylinders or
2) Was it a coverup; is the government lying?

Members, before sharing any news immediately, wait a while to make it conform that most of the times, channels for P.R break news without any confirmation but hearsay.

@Leader are you there?

bhai kia itna bura lagta hun? :cray:

I usually dont go to Z market, Y mostly. but yes as per people it was an explosion.

It was a blast. otherwise har jaga aag lag jati, and also cylinder blasts dont cause this much havoc.

So are we supposed to feel better if 10 people are killed in a shopping center by a gas cylinder blast instead of a bomb?

Either way, it speaks of a society that lost control of its safety and security, with non-existent standards for gas cylinders, in this case, and a long list of such lapses extending into many areas (the PIA international flight with seven standing passengers is another case in point).

Great point. Loss of life is loss of life and the lack of laws/enforcement by successive governments is its own kind of terrorism.

Of course --- I just meant our leaders should have a talk with them or simply curtail their freedoms.

Without a free and independent media and press we would never have gotten Panama Gate or held the leaders feet to the fire over development or been able to express our opinions freely.
Sensational stories are the price we pay for that.

One more important thing to add. No one took the responsibility. So it is surely not act of terror.

One more thing, if it was a planted bomb, the right time to explode it would have been between 12:30 to 2:00 PM when market is crowded with people having lunch and shopping. 11:40 AM is time between breakfast and lunch so the market is almost empty except for people who work there.
