Another outstanding topic by Horus.

NFL: Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah should not have been penalized

The NFL admits officials were wrong to penalize Kansas City Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah for going to knees and saying a prayer after he scored a touchdown in Monday's win over the New England Patriots.

"Husain Abdullah should not have been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct following his fourth quarter touchdown," NFL spokesman Michael Signora wrote in an email to USA TODAY Sports.

"Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 (d) states 'players are prohibited from engaging in any celebrations or demonstrations while on the ground.' However, the officiating mechanic in this situation is not to flag a player who goes to the ground as part of religious expression, and as a result, there should have been no penalty on the play."

Abdullah will not be fined, Signora said.

Abdullah, a Muslim who sat out the 2012 season to go on a pilgrimage, told reporters after the game he believed he was flagged for first sliding to his knees – not performing the Sajdah, a religious prostration. But the NFL moved quickly to clarify the situation.

Going to the ground in celebration is forbidden by NFL rules unless the player is praying. Former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, among other Christian players, have made it a regular part of the game.

If its true that they penalized him just for prostrating then that is truly sad and hypocritical on the part of the NFL.

But, anyway, this should be of interest:

In the Sunnah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I disown every Muslim who settles among the mushrikeen.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 2645; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

When you immigrate to non-Muslim countries and then pray in public (keep in mind though, Muslims are allowed to practice their faith in privacy or in a mosque BTW), then you shouldn't be surprised of such a reaction.

And when i see Pakistanis or any other Muslims cry rivers over little incidents like these i fail to see how they overlook the mistreatment of Christians and other religious minorities within Pakistan and other Islamic countries. Seriously?? You treat your own minorities like second/third class citizens but cry rivers when even the slightest wrong is done to you in a non-Muslim country?? Hypocrisy at its best i tell you.

Threatened with the fine??? Lol. The NFL came out and said that he should not have been penalized since the rule regarding going to the ground to celebrate has an exception for praying. Abdullah and Andy Reid say he thinks he got penalized for SLIDING after reaching the end zone. Hmm

Can we penalize these guys for jumping to conclusion ?

lol the bubble got busted too short !!

Referees throw flags for excessive celebration quite often. This was most likely one of those instances. But some folks are just too quick to play the victim card, perennial victims!

may be the mighty accomplishment of Pakistani cricket team offering prayer in Indian and other non Pakistani ground is imprinted inside their mind ! diff games diff rules ;)

It would be amazing that the entire NFL referee corps had it out just for this one Muslim player. Under all that safety gear, including helmet, EVERY referee at that game knew and was focused on that one Muslim player, just in case he happened to make any gesture that may remotely resemble an Islamic prayer.

Humans defined the boundaries of land, not God. There is no where written in any scriptures that A is muslim land and B is non-muslim land. The hadith that you quoted (if it is true) can apply to anywhere. Even if you are in a 'muslim' country but you work in 'non-muslim' environment that be applied as well. The reason many people migrate in the first place is because they want a better life, why, because the so called 'muslim' countries are inhabited by people who think that by smashing your head to the ground 5 times a day, reciting few Arabic words, get an Arabic name is enough to make you a muslim and they can go on cheating people in business, plotting against one another, backbiting, etc. If you don't pray, fast, etc its between you and Allah but if you cheat people and do corruption then you are a worse sinner. Its like this, society which fasts and pray but do corruption is muslim or society which has justice but do not fast/pray is muslim? If people pray, and understand what they say in namaz to God 5 times a day rather than memorizing a script, they wont be doing corruption, speaking lies, racism ,etc

Everyone who is in the minority will go through oppression, whether its religious or non-religious matter. It happens to a school kid who is not 'cool' enough / nerd for his friends. It happens to an honest man in a dishonest workplace. It happens to Muslim in a non-muslim, Christian in a non-Christian and a hindu in a non-hindu environtment. That doesn't mean that we should not speak out against it and it shouldn't be a reason to keep quite because of 'oh people in that country are oppressed worse, so lets just forget about this'

Nobody is saying we should forget about this, rather i was pointing at the hypocrisy of Muslims in this regard. Secondly, im not here talking about "only if", rather i'm here speaking about reality both in the Muslim and non-Muslim world.

Coming to your comment about borders, if that is the case than Pakistan should cease to exist and cede back into india?? I don't see Arabs, our Muslim "brothers" thinking in a similar fashion, particularly the Saudis, and other wealthy Gulf Arabs, who enjoy their oil wealth for themselves and would never think of opening their borders to the millions of poor South Asian Muslims, why?? Because this is the reality of human nature. But of course, no one will cry racism or other crocodile tears against the Saudis but many will rather kiss up to them and defend them. We all know how the Gulf Arabs treat South Asian laborers.

Well, maybe you didn't mean it that way but you the way you said it was as if things like this happens in the Muslim world so we shouldn't be crying over this.

I didn't say Pakistan shouldn't exist, I don't know where you got that idea from. You were talking about people migrating to non-muslim countries and quoted a hadith, I was just pointing out that mushrikeen can be anywhere, even in 'muslim' countries just because some people call a certain land 'muslim' and some 'non-muslim' doesn't mean anything. About the Arabs and all that, I agree with everything what you are saying, in fact I think just like Europeans can travel in EU, muslims should be allowed to do in muslim land as well, but I don't think it has anything to do with the topic I was discussing, maybe you got confused with the way wrote earlier. My point was just to say that migrating to a country where muslims are in the minority doesn't always mean settling among mushrikeen, it can also be in a 'muslim; country.
