Mumbai, Jun 8 (PTI) The Maharashtra BJP womens' wing president, Neeta Kelkar, today said the government should expedite the action to arrest the accused in the rape-cases which came to light last week in various parts of the state. "Incidents of rape of minor girls came to light at five places in the state -- Islampur in Sangli, Pimpri-Chinchvad in Pune district, Ulhasnagar in adjoining Thane, Chandrapur and Dadar," Kelkar said.

"Mostly, the victims are minor girls between the age group 7-16 years. The parents of the victims are daily wage- earners, and their financial condition is bad," she said.

"In a meeting with the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today, we demanded that government should give compensation of Rs one lakh to the victim girls, and to immediately arrest the accused and initiate trials in the fast-track courts.

"The Chief Minister however said that the compensation issue is related to the policy, and a decision in this regard can only be taken in the Cabinet Meeting by consulting the ministers," she said. PTI
