Like renaming Islamic sounding cities to hinduistic names?

Didn't really see the need for that but its not new. Bombay, Madras, Calcutta earlier... Allahbad, Ahmedabad more recently. Most people I know don't really care.

Also, it's not really a renaming of them, just reverting back to their traditional names that the Mughals and British had changed.

It was in Bombay that started this stupid trend of renaming. And Bombay as a city wasn't created by the Maharashtra stronk people who renamed it to Mumbai.

And so what if the Mughals and the British and other Europeans had renamed some of the cities ? The Mughals didn't migrate out to Central Asia whence they came. They were as Indian as you. What were the pre-Hinduism names of Indian habitations ?

Why / What will Bangladesh invest in UP for?

I think the high commissioner must have gone there to discuss the the impact of ban on cattle trafficking since UP has the largest bovine population and it only needs to cross Bihar before it enters slaughter friendly WB en route to Bangladesh.

Maybe in Noida? There’s a fair bit happening there. There’s good scope for manufacturing and more importantly, warehousing. If Bangladeshi manufacturers/exporters etc plan to enter the Indian market, Noida can be perfect.

Noida won't have it - however WB will.

What?! There’s plenty. I know you have an axe to grind with Yogi. But doesn’t change the fact that Noida is great for businesses/industries/manufacturing/warehousing ++

Also location, ancillary industries and potential supply chain savings. I can see the attraction. All the investments there to date seem to finally be resulting in creating actual momentum.

Yogi probably doesn’t deserve it. But he’s the one sitting on it right now.

WB won’t really. If players like Walton are gunning for India, WB won’t work when places like Gurgaon/Noida/Ahmedabad etc exist — positioned better for a pan-India operation (and relatively closer to Bangladesh than say Chennai or Bangalore)

That's just this one place called film city which is kind of like a business district where a lot of news orgs are based.

The name stands for north okhla industrial development area, there's lots of big manufacturing plants, electronics, autos, all sorts of other industry there too. It (greater noida) is also quite well planned compared to Delhi proper, big roads, decent infra, lots of very nice housing societies, shopping markets, some golf courses, the formula one track and sports complex.

The expressway to UP is also pretty impressive, they have modern amenities like free phone booths to call for rescue in case of a road emergency (though I heard the villagers have tried to steal those phones thinking they can use then lol), good eating joints and guest houses all along the way. It has cut down travel time bet Delhi - UP a lot and has been a boon generally. Traditional zameendaars/land owners have done really well for themselves, made some absolute killings in certain cases.

Go there are see for yourself.

Possible but unlikely. I don't know if Bangladeshi companies have invested anywhere outside Bangladesh yet. Their own costs are low enough to manufacture and export, even after accounting for freight as to negate the need for local manufacturing in their export markets.

I am not principally against them investing, just that I find it too far fetched.

Its a no brainer. Why Uttar Pradesh when we have our bethren in West Bengal who are much more friendly to BD and are more well mannered and tolerant.

Why do you want to look at unions in a bad way, as long as they are guided by progressives ? A workers union is the right of every worker in the world. Isn't there an International Workers Day every year ? A workers union is especially important in a formerly rural-feudal and extremely Capitalist country like India where the right of the worker can be easily trampled.

In India the system of workers union comes from the work of the Communists and non-Left progressives since 1947 but do you know that the decades-old Indian IT / ITES industry didn't have a workers union until 2018 ? The czars of the Indian IT / ITES industry had an unwritten agreement with the central governments to discourage workers from starting unions even though it was these workers who were doing the work to enable the top managements to earn million rupees salaries and the government to earn its GDP. Injustice.

When I was working in an ITES company in 2014 for less than a year I almost created a workers union. The idea was to set it up in my branch and then encourage the workers in the other branch in the city to start a union and they encouraging their near and dear ones to start unions in their IT / ITES companies wherever in India. This would have started workers unions in the Indian IT / ITES industry for the first time. But I foolishly resigned from that company otherwise you would have heard my name by now. You know as of 2015 IBM-USA, the company's main branches, had workers union but IBM-India did not. In Infosys there has been at least one case of suicide because of company pressure yet the workers there did not rise up and agitate. But injustices in the Indian IT industry since 2014 elsewhere in India and support by progressives from elsewhere made the environment to ultimately make the Indian IT / ITES workers to set up a union in 2018. Great work.

Why would I want to visit UP or its nearabouts ? I think even Naseeruddin Shah who's from there doesn't visit it often now.

For in case you want to watch F1 or other racing events at that magnificent track

or just go road tripping on a bike

or watch a concert at those grounds, they've hosted some pretty big name bands there, good fun.

1. Car racing : All public sports are pointless or idiotic or downright barbaric and car racing is among the most idiotic. Cars going round and round with great chances of the cars crashing into each other or into the wall resulting in death or injury. You really appreciate such activity ?

2. Bike : Ban the bikes.

3. Concert : Perhaps. Something that I like, the smarter of the classical music or good Hindi songs - filmi or otherwise.
