there was an interview of a Briton Indian family who were seeking justice for their girl who suffered a similar fate when she visited India some time ago. the family which is settled here says that they went up to a female minister but she was so condescending and dismissing saying they should accept the fate and don't waste time in pursuing the culprits.

post delhi rape case, most incidents of rape are published prominently(page 1). Earlier they were mostly pubished in 4th page or after under crimes section. The vernacular (local language) press detailed every minor or major crime faithfully in gory details, even before delhi incident.

Gaya: A Japanese research scholar was allegedly abducted and raped by five men in Bihar's Gaya district. The accused have been arrested on Friday by a joint team of Kolkata and Gaya Police.

"A joint team of Kolkata and Gaya Police arrested two brothers Zahir and Shahid from their house in Taro village under Fatehpur police station of Gaya district for confining and raping a Japanese girl," said Senior Superintendent of Police, Gaya, Nishant Kumar Tiwari.

After contacting the Japanese consulate, the girl had lodged an FIR at Park Street police station in Kolkata that the duo along with a few of their accomplices had confined her since November 26 and gangraped her, he said.

According to police, the girl was befriended by one Wasim Khan on November 20 in Kolkata who spoke Japanese and with whom she went to Gaya.

Later, they put the girl on a bus bound for Varanasi where she got in touch with her friends and contacted the Japanese consulate in Kolkata, Ghosh said.

After returning to Kolkata on December 26, she lodged the FIR following which Wasim was arrested. Acting on information collected from him during interrogation, a Kolkata Police team went to Gaya and arrested the duo and brought them to Kolkata.

The two brothers were arrested on charges of rape and cheating the Japanese girl, the Gaya SSP added.

The best way to address a situation like this is to reduce the racism in Indian society through better education and to mete out harsh punishments for the perpetrators rather than trying to ignore the situation...like we see with some of the Indians here.

Exactly. The reason why it's more dangerous in India and why these rapes make the news is because the rapes happen in large crowds. It's not done behind closed doors. It's a large group of people gangraping some poor woman or little child while their friends cheer them on like a bunch of savages.

There's literally no safety to be found in India because you could be raped on a bus or in a crowd of people. Anywhere else on earth, there is a certain safety to be found in public. But not in India if you're a woman. Hence all the travel warnings.
