hello,

im a Pakistan of Bihari origin and i would like to learn more about India and Bihar state in perticular.

for few couple of months, i have been learning about india more and more especially watching tourist videos made by tourists from foreign countries.

i was surprised to see india's thriving tourism industry and came to know both negative and positive things about India.

i am also interested in learning more about Bihar state.

Bihar has a very rich history and is home to two main religions of india namely buddhism and jainism, i also earnt that Bihar was home to two largest and most prominent indian empires namely Maurya and gupta. Bihar is also home to the indian guy who invented zero.

as rich Bihar history is, it is a struggling state in india and lags a lot behind in education and is very poor. i have learnt that in 90s, lalu parsad looted bihar a lot and the state was in anarchy and criminals roamed freely.

i watched NDTV documentary about bihar and how things are improving esp in Patna city but the rest of Bihar cities are not getting same amounts of developments. i also learnt that government of bihar favours south Bihar and neglects north. i also learnt that alchohol is banned in bihar which is positive for me, as im a muslim, but i also learnt that there is some discrimination when it comes to muslim minorities. for example muslim areas see less development compared to other areas. this is what i learnt from NDTV documentary. ill be happy to post the video if somebody objects that.

many Biharis complain of discrimination in india, and som bihari told me that some indian official made a statement that Pakistan can have Bihar and India can have kashmir as a deal and then he progressed to tell about spectacular ancient history of Bihar (video will be posted on request)

I have been learning about india's ancient history and have found some interesting facts.

my question is, how is bihar progressing now a days and how it can learn from states like gujrat, tamil nadu, karnataka, maharashtra etc?

i have also learnt that Bihar is stereotyped in india as Indians are being stereotyped by foreign tourists, how can Bihar eliminate this and is Bihar current economical progress eliminate it in future? is Bihar heading in the right direction?

How can Bihar restore its position it once had in ancient indian history and become a major power in india?

i watch youtube videos regarding bihar development, and i have observed that most prominent development is going in roads infra development, but not much on education, industry etc

i have learnt that Bihar cannot secure lands for industries since major portion of land comes under agriculture? i think right direction for Bihar would be to transform its agriculture economy to industrial economy or IT economy. Bihar has proposed IT city near rajgir i have come to know. but are these projects enough to elevate Bihar's economy?

i have came to know some politics of bihar recently, i just want to tell i have no opinions when it comes to Bihar's internal politics, im merely interested in Bihar's progress and development.

WHy doesn't bihar have much tourism even though it has places like budh gaya and has been capital of great indian empires? etc?

i think bihar lacks infrastructure and also Bihar fails to maintain its historical sites. major funding for Budh gaya comes from buddhish nations like japan, thailand etc.

i have observed that those indian states which are progressing in economy are also developing tourism, so i think bihar can earn from tourism and help its economy.

Bihar is a very poor but one of the largest states when it comes to population so i think Bihar's major problem is its population. 35 or so districts of bihar get special funding from indian govt because of being so poor. is what i have learnt.

Bihar is the most lawless province of India. People are typically very ruthless merciless type. One of my friend has a bus that travells from Rourkela to TataNagar. Once some Biharis(tribal type) stopped it on the highway. One 80 year old woman placed a wooden cart on the road and the bus stopped. then a six year old boy put a gun on the driver's head. Then few more guys drove out everyone and set the bus on fire.
There are several areas where police fears to go.

Exams are never conducted in colleges because students forcibly steal question papers.
Good thing about Biharis are the youngsters are very intelligent. When they go to other states they outperform the residents. Most IAS officers are indeed Biharis and they deserve it. Its a common thing about a Bihari guy who is very poor doing dirty jobs like stealing,running a street chai shop going to another state and becoming a topper among others. They complain their talent never get noticed because of lawlessness.

its the same in Karachi, Pakistan, biharis are very well known for their academic abilities, and its very surprising that Bihar and Biharis in india face such situation. everything melts down to bad politics eventually.

i have also heard tat cheating is very prevalent in Bihar.

actually i want some Bihari indian point of view to shed light on the situaiton now and if its improving or not.

Biggest problem in Bihar is Law and Order.

That is the crux of the problem.

But under the BJP govt. Bihar has been doing reasonably well. But since its starts from a very low base, its going to take a long time for them to come up in economic terms. But they can progress well in social index.


1. People of Bihar is the poorest in India.

2. BJP came to power in Bihar by backing Nitish kumar in 2005. That was the turning point for Bihar.

3. Before BJP, Bihar had NEGATIVE growth rate, Post BJP BJP growth rate is respectable.

The recent drop in growth rate you see is due to the effect of Lalu Yadav and his son against coming to power by backing Nitish.


4. Social index has been improving in Bihar since BJP became part of the govt.

the nitish kumar is definitely much better guy than lalu parshad but many biharis still talk about how situation is still bad. the word i have heard a lot researching bihar is 'vikas' or development. people have mixed reviews, Bihar is seeing some development but not as much as Bihar has been hyped as fastest growing economy of India in recent times. if that was the case, bihar would be seeing some big investment from across india or foreign countries. police is corrupt as well.

i think bihar still needs a lot improvement in governance.

1. Under Lalu the growth rate of Bihar was NEGATIVE. i.e. -2%

2. Under Nitish, the GDP Growth rate of Bihar is 10.2%.

3. If you don't consider 10.2 % growth as significant, then I don't know that will be.

Another example is Infant mortality going down and age of marriage going up.

Correction: The Guptas were mainly from Northwest Bangladesh, a region called Varendra which is now known as Rajshahi and Rangpur Divisions.

But yes, Bihar indeed has a rich history. I guess Bihar's downfall began when the state was bifurcated by India's central government in 2000, separating the resource rich southern part of Bihar to form the Jharkhand state.

I am Bihari and I can tell you 1 thing for sure. Although Bihar is least developed in India (we have a saying here , "hum delhi se 20 saal piche hai" , ) but it is not what it was Lalu-Rabri era. From Past 10 years or so esp in 2005-08 , Bihar was fastest to develop in over all States. In historical and social aspects, Bihar is like Gem. Most no of IITians ,UPSC Candidates are Bihari . Road in,electricity infrastructure have developed massively. But still a lot to go especially in areas in business ,jobs. We don't have much manufacturing hubs here , education standards are still very low .But continue development does give us hope.

Bihari government should start giving incentives to these biharis to serve their state.

not many people know but Bihar has caves called 'Barabar caves' these caves are mind blowing, the caves are polished from inside and have perfect geometrical shapes on granite rock. they date back to BC era mauriyan period.

doesnt make any sense, there was no 'bangladesh' back then, the kings always choose their native lands as their capitals, so guptas belonged to present day Bihar.
