Instead of using warships, had they used Navy's Supply & support vessels or commissioned a commercial freighter, they could have brought in 10-50 times the quantity.
But then, optics of operating on war footing is of primary importance!

First of all those ships were already close to those locations from where they are carrying these containers and cylinders.

Secondly, getting cryogenic tankers ready to it's tech specification, takes times and to wait for 10-50 times quantity would mean waste precious time.
