KATHMANDU, OCT 03 - CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya has alleged that the Baburam Bhattarai-led government has outdone even the Panchayati governments in anti-national activities.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the 19th national assembly of the Maoist wing All Nepal National Independent Students' Union (Revolutionary) in Kirtipur on Tuesday, Baidya claimed that Bhattarai was emerging as a new Lhendup Dorji. Dorji was prime minister of Sikkim when it was merged with India in 1975. Baidya called Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Bhattarai 'self-defeatists' and 'neo-reformists'. The Bhattarai-led government's only objective is to earn money, even at the cost of national sovereignty, said Baidya. It has sold even our national property such as rivers and airports.
The CPN-Maoist boss remarked that the popular perception of the UCPN (Maoist)--the party he was a vice-chairman of before defection--had changed from a 'former hero' to a 'laughing stock'. Baidya stated that the incumbent government had betrayed the martyrs and the Nepali people. That is why we had to form a new party, he said. Most of his speech went to criticising Dahal and Bhattarai.
While most political parties are nearing consensus on new Constituent Assembly elections, Baidya called the decision a drama and advocated a round-table conference to break the present political deadlock. He said that the consensus reached between the four parties was unacceptable to his party. Our party will launch peaceful protests to fulfil the aspirations of the people. However, a massive protest is inevitable if our demands remain unimplemented, he said. Baidya also hinted at his party's will to launch an armed rebellion if the government attempted to suppress their protests.
The conference will conclude on Friday after electing a new leadership for two years.
