What did he think- it is a Mercedes Benz for the Indian market made by Daimler Benz India. Its as clear as daylight in post#1.
He was simply trying to be a smart-alec.

The beauty of the Indian market is that it has forced even established brands to re-innovate their product lines; like Mercedes Benz had to do and create a new product with a new Marque.
If it works in India; then they will use it for marketing in the neighborhood.
Even an iconic brand like McDonalds had to innovate in India. Something that they had never thought of doing in any other market world-wide where they were only pushing their standard product line!
