HYDERABAD: Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) officially announced here today that it had successfully test-fired an indigenously developed second generation, 2.8 km range, anti-tank guided missile called Amogha-1.

According to a press release issued by the defence public sector unit, the test firing was carried out on September 10 at Babina Army Range in Madhya Pradesh.

"This is the first ever design and developmental effort in respect of missiles by BDL, Hyderabad. Amogha-I missiles will be offered to the army after due qualification and validation trials," the release said.

Two missiles were fired and both hit targets placed at 2.6 km as well as 2.8 km respectively. Both flights were without any deviation for its designed path profile and all design parameters were met, the release said.

Second generation is obsolete.

Its not..a potent 2nd Gen ATGMs can pretty much cause deadly harm to most of the MBTs of the world..

Take Milan, which can defeat ERA of any Tank..don't know performance against Hard/Soft Kill..But None of our enemies has developed similar techs yet. So,why Not..

and If It has Top Attack Capability,it could not only become deadly, but perfect to destroy anything our enemies have.

and another point,2nd Gen ATGMs are quite cheap compared to a 3rd Gen..

A Javelin(Porsche Killer) command launch unit cost $126,000, and each missile cost around $78,000

A Spike System costs somewhat lower than Javelin but still one hell of a costly system..

in comparison,A Milan costs 1/5 th of these..1 Milan ER Atgm Launcher with 10 missile costs somewhat around $100000.

Second generation missiles like milan 2/konkurs/TOW are cheap ..agreed.Its still very effective against AFVs,older MBTs that consist of bulk of pakistan's tank fleet. But against t-80UD and latest chinese modular composite armor it can't penetrate unless u can ambush from rear.
So for that purpose 3rd gen nag/spike/javelin/kornet are needed.

Excellent!! Never underestimate the significance of these lower tier requirements..

Milan-2T had indicated the range as 2 kms but indigenously developed Amogha-1 is having 2.8 kms range.

It was just my ddoubt bro, that they could've improved or made the missile on their own.

But,as long as we get a missile,I wouwouldn't mind ;-)

Why are we developing 2 nd generation missile after 3 rd generation Nag ?

Or is it just a upgrade of Milan 2T

can we use these as a bunker burster ?

Actually in race of modernization, we loose track of some very ggod old stuff. The missile like Milan were very successful. With new technology available, If we can produce something sort of milla with more range, better warhead and low weight with better accuracy with 20% cost of modern missile than it is good enough. It can be used with very cost effectively against terrorist and low intensity conflicts. So an excellent development over all.
