Don't waste your sympathy, people. If this is genuine, these are likely to be cattle- or ephedrine-smugglers. Dangerous and sometimes armed and quick to kill. India is a very large exporter of cattle, all to Bangladesh. They might starve if this smuggling stops. That's why the large number of incidents; Indian smugglers take the cattle to the borders, jointly with Bangladeshi smugglers they get them over, and in the process, the BSF either puts its snout in the gravy train or shoots those who haven't paid off. There is also the upright type who won't have anything to do with this, and shoots on being unable to stop the smuggling.

The reverse traffic is run by the people smugglers, equally organised.

As my young techie friends are apt to say, regrettably, net net, we send them cattle, they send us people. It isn't the fault of the cattle; it isn't the fault of the people.

We need to legalise the cattle trade, and we need to work to increase job opportunities in Bangladesh. I don't think a fence-and-shoot policy will be totally effective; there are just too many people trying to cross over, and too much volume in the cattle trade. If the US can't stop it, it's slightly unlikely that we will succeed.

They don't look like cattle smugglers. They were most likely people who have relatives across the border, going to see their family for Poila Boisakh.

Here's a longer video.
Brutality of BGB not BSF at hilli port,Bangladesh on suvo noboborso! - YouTube

There is a good chance this BGB guy ended up belting his own kind.

Whether it's Poila Boishakh or not, 'slipping' across the border is still not justified. He/they deserved all that was coming to him/them.

The point being that there's no need to think dark thoughts about the BGB.

What does a cattle-smuggler look like, btw?

Seriously no sane Indian crosses over to Bangladesh illegally. They are either smugglers, or Bangladeshis who have migrated to India (illegally/legally) going back to see their relatives..

If they were smugglers, then well done BGB. If they were illegal Bangladeshis going back to meet their relatives, then well done BGB too!

South Dinajpur is full of illegal Bangladeshis anyways.

As I said believe what you want but truth is many indians(they are by birth indian) do cross the border too. For your info I come from a border town too. I have seen many indian cattle traders on this side of the fence and also some crucid ones who smuggles drugs in here. Not saying Bangladeshis dont cross but yes some of your "sane indians" do cross over.
