Naftali Bennett - archive

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that the October war with Egypt and the Arabs "caused his country heavy losses, and provided a historical lesson in the importance of preparedness."

The October war, which the Israelis call the "Yom Kippur", broke out between Egypt, Israel and Arab countries, in 1973, and it was a decisive battle in modern history, and in the map of the Middle East, when the Egyptian army achieved the task of crossing the Bar Lev Line on the seventh of the month.

On Yom Kippur, on which Israel commemorates this anniversary, based on the Hebrew chronological calendar, public and private institutions, media, aviation, ports and crossings stop, as Israelis commit to their homes to fast the most sacred day in Judaism.

Commemorating the Israeli soldiers who died in that war, Bennett said, "48 years ago, something changed in all of us. The Yom Kippur War demonstrated the danger of complacency and vanity. It taught us all the meaning of humility, and even gave us a historical lesson in the importance of being prepared."

And he added during his speech at the ceremony that took place in West Jerusalem: "The Yom Kippur war changed the face of our state and the face of Israeli society, as it certainly changed the Israeli army, as we learned through it how important it is to prepare to face every scenario, even the one that almost seems imaginary."

And the Israeli Prime Minister continued, "We learned that skepticism is a necessary condition for managing our lives, not only with regard to security issues, but also with regard to managing civil crises. We learned that we can only rely on ourselves, and that we must protect ourselves by our own strength. The war has cost us horrific human losses.."

Bennett pointed out that this historical period "was a war of heavy days and heavy blood", as described by one of the leaders who participated in it.

And he added, "Today, 48 years after the war, we have no more important ingredients than our unity and solidarity with each other. We learned that in the Yom Kippur War, and we witness the truth of that again every day... The price of the war was heavy and bitter."

On the other hand, Bennett praised the re-arrest of the six Palestinian prisoners, who escaped two weeks ago from the Israeli Gilboa prison.

"The defection reflects a serious flaw, whether from an intelligence, operational or organizational point of view," he said. "But as soon as something goes wrong, everyone comes together to fix it first."

Yom Kippur war also showed how to employ treachery to achieve your goals. King Hussain, keeping in with his family's rich history of treachery, betrayed his own Arab allies and forewarned Israelis of the impending attack and then proceeded to retreat mid battle to provide relief to the Israelis who than redeployed troops from the Jordanian front over to the Sinai front.

Israel faced losers. Arab rulers were and are useless. Arabs are a brave people some are lions but lead by sheep. These sheep are used and slaughtered by the shepeherds (America and israel) at will. Gaddafi, Anwar sadat etc etc etc
