Sad.
After getting kicked around in their own state for ages (with no sense of self-determination and backbone), West Bengalis have now been relegated to second-class dada status all over India, asking for peon-level lowbrow jobs.
Self-determination is not just a tired cliche, it is a collective means to demand what is rightfully yours. Otherwise other people will come in and exploit you financially. Like what is happening now in Kolkata.
Like the Garga guy said, all large real-estate, companies and property in Kolkata are in the hands of Marwaris, Gujjus and assorted 'faida-uthanewalas'.
Twenty years ago, relatives of mine went to visit Kolkata and were amazed to see all signs in Kolkata in Hindi, a Bengali sign was a rarity.
And they hardly spoke their own language in public. Proud to speak Hindi though!
Compare this to the South, where nationalism is so strong, they hardly ever speak Hindi. English is okay.
When will these hapless Dadas finally grow a backbone and take some steps?
Like minimum (official or unofficial) job quota of Bengalis in their own state?
Pagole ki na bole
Chagole ki na khaye.
Not Bengalis in India; Bengalis in West Bengal, where development is so crappy that all competent Bengalis have left. For Hyderabad, for instance.
Just because you are lucky enough to get a job in Hyderabad, doesn't mean everyone in Kolkata is.
They have to live there and the least you could do is support them not being discriminated against in their own state.
Saw both cellphone videos. Hats off to the Garga guy to finally take a stand in the first one. Well spoken!
I live in kolkata and no one knows these jokers are.Who are they?
To deride someone brave enough to take a righteous stand for something as a 'joker' is not right.
In any event - the spark has been ignited which will light many fires.
If I get to see an independent 'West Bangla' in another ten years - I'll be a happy man.
