Tehreek-e-Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud has claimed responsibility for Monday's attack at the police training academy on the outskirts of Lahore.

Director General of Pakistani Rangers General Yakoob Khan said that Hizratullah, the terrorist captured alive during Monday's attack at the academy, said that he was sent by Baitullah Masood.

Pakistani security agencies also claim that Hizratullah is a resident of Afghanistan's Paktika province.

Investigators also claimed that the captured terrorist has revealed that all his accomplices were Afghans and on the basis of information provided by him, a few "local facilitators" have been arrested.

Three other people, too, have been arrested in connection with the attack that left 22 people dead and injured nearly 100.

A police official also said that there appeared to be only five attackers - three blew themselves up to avoid capture, one managed to escape and the fifth one was arrested.

The attackers had rented a house in Manawan, where the training centre is located, a couple of weeks ago to prepare for the attack.

Mehsud's terror group is popularly known as Pakistan Taliban and he is also believed to be responsible for the assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

The US has placed a $5 million reward on his head.

He belongs to the Mehsud tribe in Pakistan's troubled South Waziristan region and commands about 20,000 pro-Taliban terrorists mostly from his own clan. His group also include some foreign fighters.

Mehsud is also known to provide sanctuary for terrorists fighting NATO forces in Afghanistan.

However, the Lahore police academy attack is the first time that Mehsud has claimed responsibility for a terror strike.

20,000 is a staggering number of Pro-pakistan taliban. I really believe that this is no longer should be law enforcement issue, these groups have to be controlled by the army. And something has to give to take care of these ruthless killers.

Well I would agree with the fact that they are terrorists because they have done ill but they also command a lot of respect because of their views wich are similar to popular conservative religuos belief in Pakistan specially the imposition of Shariah and a lot of people unfortunately believe in the fact that lives have to be sacrificed although this is not the populous belief of the educated people but the facts are pure and simple and to sort things out all Pakistani voices will have to be heard.
