What's new

Ben Affleck gets worked up defending Islam on Bill Maher's show

Bill maher types repeat what ISIS claims.

That's unfortunate to see.

Educated Americans should be much better than ISIS monkeys.

Sadly those verses have been abandoned by millions upon millions of Muslims.

This is especially true for many of the societies and regions that claim to be the flag bearers of Islam

Iran - there is compulsion and a lot of it, all thanks to pathetic ayatullahs
Saudi - there is compulsion and a lot of it, all thanks to pathetic Mullahs
Pakistan - there is compulsion and a lot of it, all thanks to pathetic followers of ayatullahs and Mullahs

And the list goes on.

Heck I see 100% intolerance even among those Pakistanis who are settled in the West for a long time.

So before you all start quoting Quran, make sure to ask an important question.

--- Do we really believe in everything Quran says?

or

-- we use Quran for cheap evangelism only. (and believe in all those Ahadeesh that truly slaughter Quranic intentions).

peace to you

In term of Hadith (Hadis), it should be interpreted based on the context. Some Hadith can also be diluted by the new ones ( if the context is similar) when there are contradictory between them, but many hardline Muslim is not aware of that. I see that the way they think is so simple, unable to understand complex thing. And I am agree with you that we should put Hadith after Quran in term of the importance, not in reverse.

Saw tht a few days ago.. Ben is a nice guy..(fan of his movies like pearl harbour,Charles town etc)..Maher acting like the turd he is.. In another show he was owned by tht former CIA dude..

.
hahahaha towards the end at least the freaky shorty admitted he had a phobia by agreeing with alot of things Ben said (esp the part of making a career with ISIS) even Ben was annoyed by such a dimwit person...

I am glad the 3 there had good arguments esp when they brought those clerics who put down their names IN OPEN LETTER and put it up that it didnt get the coverage it needed! That really was the bulls eye!

.
Do you know why ben affleck did it???

BEcause BECAUSe he is Batmannn.....

.
Still can't get over the horrific idea of this guy being Batman..
Thats what they said about a blonde James Bond. Daniel Craig is now considered one of the best Bonds!
I say, lets wait and see, before jumping to conclusions.

Yeah, but Daniel Craig was competing with Pierce Brosnan. Hardly a competition. Brosnan's bond films were also rather mediocre.

Ben will be competing with Christian Bale that too following the Nolan trilogy. These shoes are too big for him to fill. After Daredevil I am not too hopeful. Still, let's wait and watch.

Pierce Brosnan hardly mattered after Goldeneye. Infact Craig was pitted against Sir Roger Moore - the most flamboyant Bond, if I may dare to say so. And Craig came out tops. Also Craig turned out to be a more muscular, hands on, gritty Bond than his predecessors who were more flamboyant and melodramatic - a requirement of the times I suppose!
Daredevil was awful!
Nolan had a story to tell So his Batman was different than previous depictions.
Zack Snyder has a different story to tell. Batman here will be portrayed as required. I am sure people will eventually warm up to Ben Affleck as the Batman as they did for Craig's Bond or Henry Cavill as the 'Man of Steel' without attaching any of the jinx associated with the franchise.

You may be right, but I feel, there is a natural tendency to compare with the previous actor who played the role. There Ben will find it difficult. Anyway, let's see.

P.S- Ben Affleck did poorly in this debate. Maher and the other guy kept giving numbers and stats while Ben had nothing to answer for them.

Listen to the video from 5.56. Micheal Steel.

The key point to this is that all people are ambassadors. Whether your a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Confucian, Tao, Buddhist, or Atheist.

Your actions are the first impressions people have of not just you but your unconscious ego.

I've faced this constantly. Had to prove myself a "Patriotic American" who's a Muslim. But its the actions that you do prove to everyone this guy has my back.

The thing is this. The Media is bias. They're going to cover the fundamentalist rather than the reformers. A group does not define the whole. Are Americans superficial? Yes.

What is needed is a better narrative to counter such views. That is what we lack IMO.

Nah, we don't.
Neo-cons are a dying breed. Eventually, we won't see these Muslim haters. I'm pretty sure by 2020 the US will become some sort of Marxist Liberal Paradise with Empress Hillary at its forefront.

May be. Or may be not.

Very good, sir. Too bad most on this forum do not take that to heart when debating divisive issues like religions.

The thing is this. The Media is bias. They're going to cover the fundamentalist rather than the reformers.
But how does this square with your previous (and true) comment that actions are more attention grabbing than words ? Since (not if) the fundamentalists have been much move vocal, active, and willing to put themselves, not just their beliefs, into the fore, much more so than reformers, how else can you expect the media talking heads to do their jobs ? Calling the media 'bias' ignores this problem.

A group does not define the whole.
I disagree. Take the Vatican, for example. What the Pope and his clique says about Catholics -- defines Catholicism and by extension, the world can look at one group and can reasonably attributes certain characteristics the group's beliefs and actions to be representative of the whole.

Granted, Catholics and assorted Christian sects do consent to these minority groups to speak for and to represent the sects, but if polls among the Muslims are any trending indicators, it looks like there are enough supporters of Islamic fundamentalism and more extreme Islamic fundamentalism to warrant caution for observers NOT to assume reformers have any relevance INSIDE the ME. Outside the ME ? Great, there are enough reformers to credibly challenge the fundamentalists mano-a-mano on any day on any channel. Inside the ME ? Reformers are either dead or on the way there.

Are Americans superficial? Yes.
No more than any other peoples.

I read this somewhere and its really becoming evident as you can see here.

"If you want to be famous, important, and gain influence, indulge in great hate speeches and generalize a whole race based on a few wrong doers".

Yesterday it was Glenn Beck, now Bill Maher, tomorrow someone else. Cycle continues as long as there are people dumb enough to believe them.
