I thought they were planning a larger newer class of destroyers but 10000 tonnes is news.

Have they solved the power plant issues yet?

The new gas turbine technology has been solved recently.

I would imagine you need a fair more power for 4000 extra tonnes. Is there an improved variant?

For the coming 10,000 tons destroyer, something like 150,000 shp, which has been discussed by some insiders.

And the current Type 052C++ will also use the indigenous gas turbine. Previously, they only built two because the gas turbine was not mastered.

Essentially a Tico or Burke flight II/III equivalent. Thus joining US (Spruance/Kidd/Tico, Burke), Russia (Slava), South Korea ( King Sejong the Great) and Japan (Kongō, Atago) in fielding ships this size. US ships and their ROKN and JMSDF derivatives are 9-11k tons, powered by 4 GTUs, with the plant totally 80k-110k shp (60k-80k kW). Slava is bigger at 12,5k tons and has 130k shp, employing multiple Gtu's

China is using Ukrainian GTus in the 052B/C but probably can produce these domestically by now. These are comparable to sets powering e.g. Russian Udaloy class ships and 1135.6 ships produced for export but also adopted at home.

The gas turbine used in Type 052C++ and Type 052D is not related to UGT-25000 at all.

It is like WS-10 is not related to AL-31.
