Beijing Olympics 2022: Discussion and Update

Never said they did, but a weighted point system is the best way to determine overall country performance. It assigns higher value to winning gold, but still recognizes silver and bronze winners. If all that matters is winning gold, silver and bronze medals would not be awarded.
The most common rankings are based on the number of gold, be it winter or summer Olympics, go to check all ranking lists in the history, 99% are presented this way. A win is a win, A win should mean never been defeated, not even once.

.
Hahaha. Didn't USA lead China by a puny 1 gold medal during Tokyo Olympics (despite having sent hundreds more athletes)? I guess it's pay back... (Hope it stays that way for 1 more day...)

The IOC does not recognize an official ranking system. If only gold matters, silver and bronze would not be awarded. That’s why it’s best to use a weighted point system.

It’s like saying a country that won only 5 golds had a better performance than a country that won 4 golds, 10 silvers, and 12 bronze. Who had the better overall performance? Again, if silver and bronze does not matter then it would not be awarded. That’s why the IOC does not recognize an official ranking system.

Most of the world measure the final results by winners, not also runs. One event has just one winner, that's why many athletes cry rivers after getting a silver medal, cause it's a lost , not a win.

Silver and bronze are pity medals. Only gold counts in ranking. Or else 4th place, 5th place, 6th place would also count points towards ranking. Only when gold count is same, can silver and bronze be used to break tie.

Silver and bronze medals have been awarded to countries for over a century. If they did not matter, they would not be awarded. Its that simple. To determine country performance, its best to use a weighted point system to assign value to each medal.

How a country feels about losing in a gold medal game is irrelevant to the medal standings.

Again, for the dense here, if silver and bronze did not matter they would not be awarded. Thats why the IOC does not recognize an official ranking system.

China did not "beat" those countries. Based off a point system of 3 for gold, 2 for silver, and 1 for bronze, China earned 37 points. US has earned 49 points, Russia 54 points, and Canada 41 points. All 3 countries had better overall performances.

Do you really think three silver medals can equal two gold medals?

. .
Thats how they sort the medals, but that is not an official ranking system. The IOC does not recognize an official ranking system and never have.
An event has just one winner, what's the difference from the second , third, fourth, fifth, sixth...? even an eighth can be a good performance if 100 athletes competed in this event, except for the gold, all others were beaten at least once, so where the score counting should end?

Russian women's figure skating is powerful. They usually win the top three in large-scale competitions. If there is no limit on the number of participants from each country, they can win the top five.
Shcherbakova usually ranks second in Russia, weaker than Valieva and stronger than Trusova.
But this time, valieva was involved in the doping incident during the Russian team competition, which affected her state and only won the fourth place.

The Chinese logic here is stupid. The IOC awards gold, silver, and bronze medals. Therefore, you have to assign value to each medal. Thats why a point system is the best metric to determine overall country performance.

The rest is all claptrap.

Go and check out IOC official website and see what's its first preference in listing country rankings. Hint, IOC official website is not a Chinese website, call its logic stupid as you will. Mr. Sore Loser :yahoo: :yahoo:
