That's indeed primitive. For once, the naval group has been traversing the region for many days and the satellite image shows only an instance of a specific formation (as you say, parade formation).

By F-22 Raptor's Indian logic, SP12 flying acrobatic motorcycle riding strong army units are also easy to smoke.

The point of the article, just in case there are readers who are not familiar with military affairs, was that the PLAN fleet formation are not combat arrayed. But then again, considering the fact that most on this forum have never served in their respective countries' militaries, this article is not out of place, given how often people made comments that the military types would never make.

They know the orbit and the timing of the satellite passing overhead, so they sailed into a locatiion directly under the satellite. A few seconds more, or a few less, the satellite would have failed to capture photo of these aircrafts. The satellite company is being used as a free publicity agent for PLAN for sending a message to US and Taiwan for the recent offensive visiting law passed by the US congress. This time the Western media is indirectly controlled by China in a clever move.

A column formation as how the PLAN fleet did it does not offer the squadron or fleet the same level of mutual protection that a group formation can, such as a diamond or even V formation.

Actually, it's not. That formation is for photograph only. I bet that as a retired pilot, you should have seen the real combat formation of a US CBG. I asked this to Jeff Head long time ago in the neighboring forum, and he said precisely that it is not a combat formation. It's only for photograph only. So it just the same as a parade.
