now what's Bhojpuri? In Urdu, bhoj means burden; puri means some sort of roti (fried) as shown below






Is it also a place or caste? I have heard of it but not sure what Bhojpuri means - I know they're a group of people, but are they related to the place or caste or what?

it is a place called Bhojpur.... and bhojpuri is a language....bhojpur is named after king Bhoja...

Bhoja was a philosopher king and polymath of medieval India. He belonged to the Paramara dynasty and ruled the kingdom of Malwa in central India from about 1000 to 1050


and for the bolded part yes Bojh is burden but Bhoj ( Bh Ho J ) is different

alright something ineresing about bhopal......there are v large no Dargah's in bhopal..... i cant find pics of those dargahs @ net, i ll go and click them myself....

you wont believe.... we have dargahs just next to it temple and guess what!!!!!!!!!!!! people pay respect to both of them in there own way.... like some people like me do pranam to both dargah and mandir... etc etc....

Now this is wrong, one can't do Sajjdah to anyone but Allah (according to Islam) - even here in Pakistan, a lot of people do it, which is wrong.

About puris, we normally eat with cholay and halwa and it's called halwa puri in Lahore.

The one you eat at lunch are a bit heavier than these puris, and they are called Pathooray (or Bhathooray). I am a Punjabi and we call it cholay pathooray.

Hmm lemme think .. I dont remember anyone is dark skinned is my family.. both from Iranian and Pakistani side... but there is one distance cousin who is rather dark.. we call her "kalo"

Well the response is mixed. Its not that Dargah is more popular. People stick to mosques for their prayers specially the Friday prayers as you must obv be knowing. Dargahs are just places where people go to pay their respects, not pray.
They are more popular because, the dargahs are visited by people from all faiths. I mysel have been to Amersharif, HajiAli Dargah, Dargah of Salim Chisti in Agra.
They also tend to be hyped, because many celebrities tend to visit them, or maybe its ignorance of the common people.
i like going to Haji Ali, in Mumbai. The place has a beautiful secular feel.

there is 1 more interesting place near Bhopal for ancient rock painting and history lovers....

Bhimbetka rock shelters
it is an archaeological World Heritage site located near Bhopal Madhya Pradesh.

They exhibit the earliest traces of human life in India; a number of analyses suggest that at least some of these shelters were inhabited by man for in excess of 100,000 years. Some of the Stone Age rock paintings found among the Bhimbetka rock shelters are approximately 30,000 years old.

I don't believe you, especially since you said you are from the Punjab province.

I also don't believe you have family from the Iranian side. That is extremely unlikely. Considering you are 19 years old, it is unlikely your Punjabi family married outside of their culture.

You are not the first American Pakistani girl who is ashamed from where she is from and claim Iranian heritage. I have heard this countless times. Try claiming this around Iranians.

not disagreeing with what you are saying. in fact, that's how it should it be, but the reality is a bit different than that. there are a lot of people who perform Sajjdah to graves, which is called shirk, and that's BIG.

In Lahore, there's a very famous shrine - Data Darbar (Ganj Bakhash) and I myself have seen many people doing Sajjdah to the grave (now this is wrong).

I am not claiming Iranian heritage from 1000 years ago.. like some people do... my Grandfather is Iranian.. that is different thing... and I am more proud of being Punjabi than Iranian.. as this forum will confirm....

Check out this place. Its Haji Ali Dargah, built in middle of the sea, it goes partially under water during high tides.
One of most famous attractions in Mumbai, I love this place. It has a pure feel about it and is visited by people of all faiths.

but some people pray to them.. and ask THEM for help instead of God.. so in a way they are equating God with people... which is against the teachings of Islam.. Islam is strictly monotheistic religion..
