The declassified tapes reveal Nixon calling then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi an “old witch” and Kissinger agreeing with that assessment.

1.What shall we deduce?

a. Firstly, USA did not (and does not) want the destruction of (W) Pakistan simply because that would amount to loosing a good customer. In fact two - that is, including India, which is a far bigger client of arms and aid.

why was the world so impressed with india in 71 war? was it because of what happened in east pak? maybe.

but also because of what happened in west pak. the indian troops in the west were ordered to hold territory. not only did they achieve that, they also captured Wpak territory despite being outnumbered. that almost never happens in warfare
