Oops! Self delete! Wrong thread! :cuckoo:

Maybe these business men might start investing in Pakistan instead.

what's up with these bong babus???
why you always blame india for all things.
don't blame r&aw.blame yourself because you are the one who elected this lady as your pm.

Most of Pakistani investment in Bangladesh is in textiles sector.

And the reason is that BD gets low/no duty on its products in most of the world including India.

Sri Lanka will never get it. Its costs are far higher.

Consequently despite 'you' wanting Pakistani businesses to invest in Sri Lanka - they will follow where money goes.

Sri Lanka & Pakistan to enhance existing trade & commerce ties

At the fifth Technical Level Meeting on Pakistan-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (PSFTA) held in Islamabad from April 29-30, the two countries agreed to enhance the existing level of trade and commerce through greater interaction.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Secretary of the Pakistan Ministry of Commerce Munir Qureshi and his Sri Lankan counterpart Anura Siriwardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Having recognized that despite the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries in 2005, the present trade figures are far below the trade potential of the two countries, Qureshi emphasized the need to further deepen the economic relations.

Qureshi attributed successful working of PSFTA as a result of dedication, hard work and spirit of accommodation displayed by both sides and expressed desire to broaden and deepen the PSFTA by including Investment and Services in its ambit.

In this regard, the two sides decided that a Joint Working Group (JWG) would be formed to give proposals for expanding the scope of FTA to include investment and services. The officials agreed to nominate nodal persons and JWG will have a meeting to discuss all customs related issues.

The meeting also constituted new Joint Working Groups on services, investment and customs and auto part, which would meet respectively, to further deepen Pakistan Sri Lanka economic relations.

The Pakistan Secretary hoped that 5th Technical Level PSFTA Meeting in Islamabad would play a vital role in devising ways and means to give a much needed boost to existing volume of trade.

The Sri Lankan Secretary expressing gratitude to Pakistan said there was a strong urge for augmenting bilateral trade but much remains to be done to realize the actual potential of bilateral trade.

Key to move forward would be to create a high level of awareness of the opportunities provided by the agreement to the business community, the Sri Lankan official said.

Meetings and promotion of trade is fine.

In textile production. No one beats Bangladesh, not even India.

The reasons are more than clear - Low labour costs and preferential access given to BD.

I see @Dillinger 's nasty fingerprints all over this ! :pissed:

Well I did sanction a few cash packets for both Hasina and Khaleda bibi with some instructions...I think something was lost in translation or probably a lot was lost..I'd asked them to facilitate the quite detainment and hand over of @BDforever to me...NOT THIS!! :pissed:

Pakistan Offers Tax concessions
to Sri Lanka

Pakistan has opened its doors for more Lankan exports and had agreed to consider waiving 28 more items off their NCL, said Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industry and Commerce, addressing Lankan exporters held to discuss the recent developments on Pakistan-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (PSFTA) and future prospects held at his ministry recently.

"I strongly believe that the latest measures by Pakistan will help us to move towards better utilizing the Lanka-Pakistan FTA" said he added.

Among the top Pakistan export oriented Lankan firms meeting Minister Bathiudeen on May 8 were Adamjee Lukmanjee, Nature's Beauty Creations, Expolanka Holdings, Hettigoda Industries, Anverally Sons, MK Lanka Exports and USA Trading Ltd.

Maj Gen Qasim Qureshi, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, during his discussion with Minister Bathiudeen in Colombo said that Pakistan had eased tariffs on three Lankan commodities it directly imports from Sri Lanka, namely - crude coconut oil, betel leaves, and bottle cooling machines.

During the May 8 session with exporters, Minister Bathiudeen announced that consequent to Secretarial level meetings held during the last week of April between both countries in Islamabad, even concessions have been received from Pakistan for several Lankan export items.

"These new products are herbal hair oil, mosquito repellant coils, ceramic products, and electric switches exported from Sri Lanka. Pakistan has also agreed to consider concessions for Aurvedic products, fermented beverages, and selected Agricultural products from Sri Lanka" the minister added.

Accordingly, the 20% preferential margin of duty currently enjoyed by Sri Lankan betel leaves under the PSFTA will be increased to 35% with immediate effect (According to the Department of Commerce, Pakistan imports 5,000-6,000 mt of betel leaves annually.

Pakistan is the only single market for Sri Lanka's betel leaves. In 2010, $ 5.77 mn valued Lankan betel leaves were exported to Pakistan. Crude coconut oil, which is currently in the 'No Concession List' of Pakistan, will be granted a 50% preferential margin of duty immediately. The preferential margin will be increased to 100% with effect from July1, 2013, making this product totally duty free under the PSFTA (In 2011, Sri Lanka exported $ 1.25 mn crude coconut oil to Pakistan.

Previously, Pakistan agreed to remove crude coconut oil from its no concession list and phase out in two annual instalments and provide market access for bottle cooling machines on a Margin of Preference of 50%).

Bottle-cooling machines will be able to enjoy a 50% preferential margin of duty with immediate effect. A 50% margin of preference (MoP) for herbal hair oil and 100% concession for mosquito repellent coils are now in effect. Pakistan has also agreed to restore 20% MoP on ceramic products and agreed to remove electric switches from the Negative List of Pakistan thereby granting 100% duty concession. Pakistan has also agreed to consider concessions for Ayurvedic products, fermented beverages, and concession for selected Agricultural products.

Bilateral trade between both countries experienced a substantial growth after Free Trade Agreement between the two countries was implemented in 2005.

Natural rubber, vegetable products, coconuts, brazil nuts, tea, wood, oil cake, new pneumatic tyres (rubber), coconut (copra) oil are Sri Lanka's main exports to Pakistan.

Pakistan opens for more Lankan exports

@Lankan Ranger , Do even care to read what he meant to say ?

Labour cost in Lanka is far greater than Bangladesh and Textile industries are labour intensive.

Read it Again.

Sri Lanka will never get it. Its costs are far higher.
