BD apparel makers eye big pie in Indian textile market

I think this is a welcome move by GOI. The cost of garment in india is increasing like anything...So Indian industry needs completion to decrease the cost of the garments. And apart from that Bangladesh Industry is a good market leader in producing quality garment product. Win win for every one...

Good for INDIA, bad for Bangladesh unless they have plans for the pollution that is about to unfold on them.
Most of the private owners in South India Tirupur which was called the Manchester of Asia did make big money in the Garments industry and knitting factories and in the end polluted almost all the water bodies in the area.

BD fabrics are good. Inclusion in Indian market should help the consumers provided the Govt taxes them within limits.

Today a ordinary shirt costs anything from 1200/- upwards. One does not mind paying but does not get value for money.

BD products would do well to target the sub 700/- market which is huge.

BD beaware, make sure that your natural resouces are not lost because of this INDUSTRY going to boom there.
The suprem court of India has given a verdict that the Dying industries should not be opened in Tirupur with out installing Zero Efulluent Treatment plant. This move may benifit a few owners in a short run but will polute the land and water bodies.

indian garment import from china is about 2 billion annual due to cheaper prices as chinese govt provide subsidies to chinese exporters..
with benifited by free duty , import from BD going to get evenly cheaper therefore BD surly going to grap a major portion from import from china into india market....
also people of india are always has a inclination towards fancy handicrafts cloths which BD can provide them at cheaper rate after making making the import duty free..

We entered the market of turkey for just two years but already exporting million dollar of garments there . so If India withdraw tariff and non tariff barrier with free mind we have huge opportunity in Indian market . lets see what in Indian mind .:coffee:

Bangladesh is known all over the world for textiles but the real money is making your own clothes like Levis, Hugo Boss etc this is where the markup in $$ is made

But our top brand like cats eye have a minimum price tag is around tk.1000 .though the garments goods which miss the export market due to defect or time schedule problem sell at Dhaka's footpath for only tk 300~

If BD can provide good quality textile material in cheaper price then competition will increase and everyone is going to benefit from that...

.
Imports needs to be regulated............allow imports but not at the cost of local population.

BD produces some of the best quality textiles in the world :D

BD should try to compete in the Russian market. It should also get into more products and services other than just garments.

BD maybe making the best quality of apparel, but it will take a whole lot of advertisement and a campaign to make it acceptable given that foreign (western brands) are making a great splash on the Indian market.

Currently, the BD clothes are the smuggled ones that are sold on footpaths and there lies the problem to get rid of this image!

BD textiles will have the same makeover problems like the excellent vehicles such as Mahindra Scorpio or Chevrolet Tavera which is associated with the long distance Taxi business and hence in the popular imagery are but mere taxis!!

Apparel business does not work that way. BD does not brand its product rather big brands makes their product from Bangladesh. Its the Indian or foreign brand which outsource their manufacturing job to Bangladesh. Next time you buy a western brand, dont forget to look under the sticker. You may come across "Made in Bangladesh" writings there.

These are low end products and once tariff barrier are taken away then those poor shopkeepers will be interested to do business in formal channel.

BD textiles have no makeover problems. They are the 2nd biggest standalone exporter in the world.

lol After the transit deal is done.. barriers and tarrifs will be raised...
Our govt will risk indian industries for a bunch of bangladeshi companies??lol

As far as foreign interests are concerned, big names like GAP, Nike, Diesel, Levis, Dockers, etc outsource their production operations in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi brands within Bangladesh such as Westecs, Catseye, Artisti, etc promote their own brands within Bangladesh. But quality is just as good as the exported ones. Advertising is done by whatever brand the product carries.

The ones sold on footpaths are usually the low quality clothes, or those that are rejected during quality control operations.

Some are bought through 'special arrangements'. I bought some Beverly Hills Polo shirts for Tk. 300 each from a footpath, all new and original :P
