BB would be 58 today. Who killed BB?

@T-Faz,
I have heard this non-sense about Zulfi Bhutto making Pakistan a religious state. And you repeat that all the time. This myth--like the accusation against ZAB for the Fall of Dhaka--needs another dedicated topic. I will be brief here.
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
ZAB--facing an avalanche of rightwing attacks against him--did ban gambling, alcohol comsumption, and declared Ahmadis as 'Non Muslim'. But he did not go around systematically changing the education curriculum, the television shows, the promotion of judiciary/bureaucrats/civil servants...in any way to make Pakistan a theocracy. A few cowardly lapses in face of the on-slaught against him, yes. But nothing more than cosmetic. No one was whipped in public or hanged in public per any 'Islamic' laws in ZAB.
All these curses I mention came under a true dedicated General Zia ul Haq.

In fact, the movement which toppled ZAB in 1977 was called 'Nizaam e Mustafa'--a call for an Shariat Law based country. It must be concluded that then ZAB remained a mortal enemy of these religious forces. Even his last written words accuse the rightwing, especially Jamaat e Islami, more than anything else.

YOU have taken an easy route. If you have some more data then share. This mere banning-alcohol etc does not cut it. ZAB himself publicly--in front of tens of thousands of people said: 'Yes, after a hard days work I may imbibe some. At least I don't drink poor people's blood!'. This man, hardly a perfect man, was not religious at all. He did some token 'Islamic' things but that's all. Almost all Pakistani rulers have done that. You can go back to the 50's and see that there the Legislation calls for 'Islam' in its Resolutions. Everyone did that. And that's because Islam is under every Pakistani's skin.

I can tell you, from personal observations--as much as a young boy can remember, Pakistani was NOT some religious society in 1979 that it became by 1989 and then later.

Blame ZAB for his arrogance. For his intolerance of criticism sometimes. For his economic policies. But don't propagate non-sense about a man who EVEN Imran Khan now calls the greatest leader since M.A.Jinnah.

Islamabad

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Senate Chairman Farooq H Naek and other Parliamentarians on Tuesday donated blood under a nationwide campaign to mark the 58th birth anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

After the blood donation, the prime minister said Benazir was a leader of international stature and the best way to pay tribute was to follow her vision. “It is the responsibility of the party workers to carry forward her vision and make Pakistan strong,” he said. He asked PPP workers to donate blood generously.

“This will be used for the treatment of the personnel of law-enforcement agencies who are sacrificing their lives in the war against terrorism,” the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, Ashiq Awan said Benazir Bhutto bravely faced the militants and extremists, who were bent upon forcing their ideological agenda on the people through use of brute force.

“Pakistan People’s Party will continue fighting terrorism and extremism till its logical ends,” she said.

The minister said security forces were combating militants and rendering great sacrifices for the sovereignty and integrity of country.

“We have donated bloods for the personnel of security forces to assure them our full support in fighting terrorists,” she said.

Some other parliamentarians including Senator Hafiz Rashid Ahmed and Dr. Zil-e-Huma also donated blood on this occasion.

Meanwhile, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, also donated blood here at the Presidency on the occasion.
