Bangladesh's Olympic shame

Bangladesh, once again, returned empty-handed from the Olympics this year, retaining its title of the ‘most populous country to have never won an Olympic medal’. At the start of the Rio Olympics, Bangladesh was one of 75 countries with no Olympic medals. Fiji, another such country, squashed its record of Olympics duck when its rugby team won the gold and the country’s first ever medal at the Olympic Games in the inaugural men’s rugby sevens competition. Kosovo achieved a similar feat when double world champion Majlinda Kelmendi clinched the gold in the women’s jude 52 kg category, putting the recently-independent country on the medal table for the first time. But Bangladesh, along with the likes of war-ravaged Congo and Rwanda, failed to secure any medals at Rio, prompting very little curiosity or concern from Bangladeshis worldwide, who seem to only have high expectations when it comes to the national cricket team.

Wrong.

Rio Olympics gold medallist rhythmic gymnast Margarita Mamun.

On a sad note, her father passed away couple of days ago.

Zero. Same for Pakistan.
ah ok.. i dont want to be racist.. but.... :)
if pakistanis cant qualify... what chances bd pplz have..
watever medals we get are from people of haryana/punjab stock..(same people available in pak too)

Zero. Same for Pakistan.

South Asia as a whole sucks at Olympic sports . We are much better in sports like Cricket , Hockey , Chess , Squash , Snooker which aren't part of Olympics . As for Pakistan our overall medal tally of 10 medals is better ratio than a 6 times bigger country having a total of 28 .

She refused to be associated with Bangaldeshis din admitted that she could have never won end all if she participated from Bangaldesh.

Show me your source of her refusal or say sorry for lying without havingg any clue of what you are talking about

And how has the trend been in say the last 20 or so years? A long drought in Pakistan for some reason.

Are you trying too hard to be funny or are you seriously that thick and racist?

What stock was India's silver medal winner this year? (Hint: not haryana/punjab)

No wonder everyone avoids you at a restaurant. Probably can smell the idiocy emanating off you....that you either have put on for real or fake....who really knows.

So how many have Bangladeshi males won....EVER?

A big fat 0. Truly subhuman performance.

So these disgraces you talk about are infinitely better than BD males no? Since even 1 is infinitely better than 0 (and India has 28 total medals at olympics won by both men and women).

If Bangladesh actually won at least 1 medal, we can actually quantify the ratio without having to use the word "infinite"

But instead Bangladesh is the largest population in THE WORLD to NEVER have won an olympic medal.

Bangladesh is ranked 8th in population in the world.

You have to go all the way down to rank 26 to find the next largest country with no olympic medal (Myanmar).

Bangladesh is therefore the world's worst case scenario of olympic sporting and disgrace....be it male or female.

Not even an LDC in sporting....but a primitive coolie bunch. I mean one would think BD would have won a medal in pole vaulting by now.

When you are a failure yourself like BD, one can only resort to notions of ummah and others success to feel better.

This is a very deep inferiority complex in BD. You can see it for yourself each time one of them claims to be Turkish, Central Asian or Genghis Khan lineage....and know that each day of the week they say is a Hindu god  (Lets not even bring up their actual DNA markers and clear looks overall).

I don't think any other country in South Asia has beaten up a gold medallist (mentioned in this article), or any medallist or athlete to an inch of his life like Bangladesh has.

They are on a whole different level to rest of South Asia when it comes to sports and treatment of people who succeed at it.
post reported....and that is the most ironic abuse I have ever seen..considering you are an Indian and this abuse has very historic Indian connection....and if population(rather than infrastructure economy and opportunity) is the main criterion for Olympic medals your argument doesn't make your country(that you are somehow trying to defend here) look any better....India is the 2nd most populous country in the world....let us compare their performance with the 1st and 3rd most populous countries 28 versus 2500+ and 500+ .

this year is exception.... :)

She competed for Russia.

If Bangladesh trained her and she competed under your flag, no issues pop up then.

Its like India claiming Mohini Bharadwaj medals were Indian.

this year is exception.... :)

Leander Paes? Karnam Malleswari? All the non punjab/haryana indians in hockey?

Bhupati, Mirza, Bopanna....these are all punjabi/haryani?

No. Olympic is a traditional battleground for ambitious countries. Those who want to be recognized as super power have chosen this tournament to prove their national capabilities. From Hitler to Modern China, USA to Russia all showed their worth. Only one soon to be suppa powa cant win anything. Its funny.

Bangladesh doesn't have such ambition, isn't askin for a seat in SC. At present Olympic is a tour for Govt. Officials Nothing else. They can't go alone so they take 5-6 people from army or police as players.

I concur. We play with pen and paper. We play with literature. But what the so called martial part of the subcontinent achieve?:lol::lol:

Apparently 10M people is good enough to BOTH have a seat at the UNSC and win a couple of gold medals :enjoy:.

those are exceptions... as medals are too few in olympics its hard to see the pattern.. commonwealth games is a better source...
you see some from east and south getting a medal or two in some sissy games... but the table is dominated the group i told.. :)

Something they themselves can't achieve.

Rajendra Chola defeated the King of Vangaldesa. Now you see Kerry visits Bangladesh and doesn't even know about chola :lol::lol:

No one knows about Bangladesh beyond when it was part of Indian nation (and you still have lingering effects of this today) and also maybe Yunus.

You need a gora visiting to think you are more relevant?

How many times has Kerry visited India do you know?

When was the last time a US president visited Bangladesh? How many visits in total have their been?

North Indians are pretty terrible at math and logic so I will let it slide since I take pity on you being thought of as a refugee.

Gora sounds good. By Kerry I didn't mean his skin color. I meant the foreign minister of the most powerful nation. They visited India aright. 5 times. But he visited Delhi and Tajmahal perhaps places with which your ancestors of the time of Rajendra chola had no link all.

Anyway You can cluster around each other form a Huge artificial nation. I have no problem. At least you can talk big against the half of Bengal. That is the achievement of your clustered nation. Enjoy.

And here I thought Norwegians were just damn good at skiing. All this time they wanted to be a super power. Who knew?

Norway if you don't know is the all-time gold and total medal count leader for the Winter games.

Norway is also the all-time leader in hot chicks at the Olympics:D.

Silje Norendal anyone?
