Bangladesh raids militant training camp in remote area of Chittagong POSTED: 22 Feb 2015 20:25 DHAKA: Bangladesh special forces raided a training camp in the southeastern Chittagong district operated by an Islamist militant network that was planning to carry out attacks in the country, senior officials said. In their raid on the camp in Banshkhali, a remote, hilly area covered in forest, the elite Rapid Action Battalion arrested five people and found firearms, ammunition and other training material, Lieutenant Colonel Miftah Uddin said. The operation to raid the camp was launched after police arrested 25 students on Feb. 19 at their madrasa, a school teaching Islamic theology and law, in the town of Hathazari in Chittagong, he said. Uddin said the detained students had given information on the camp during their interrogation and that people from across Bangladesh went there to receive arms training. Among the weapons and other items recovered were three AK 22 semi-automatic rifles, seven pistols, more than 750 rounds of ammunitions, boxing gloves and ropes. "All arrested persons hailed from different parts of the country, were engaged there as trainers and conducted training of fire arms handling, bomb manufacturing and militants attack to selected militants," Uddin said. Lieutenant Colonel A K Azad, the director of RAB's headquarters, said the militants operated a "strong network" and had a plan to attack Bangladesh, but he did not name the group. Last month, Bangladeshi police arrested four suspected members of Islamic State in the capital, Dhaka, including a regional coordinator for the militant group who told police they had been trained in Pakistan. "The trainers showed video films on militancy and encouraged the new militants with lectures and books," Azad said. Young men from poor families and madrasa students had been exploited by the network, he said. The camp was established under the veil of a cattle farm. 1. Today's Daily Star report shows a pix of Pahartali, Chittagong city.

2. Reserve Forests are regularly patrolled by the Forest Deptt.Normally there would be Forest Villagers living in the area. They are attached to the local forest office. Moreover, firewood collectors and timber poachers would not leave such a location uncovered.

3.The problem is that there are valid reasons for which we cannot trust our Police/RAB or political leaders. In recent days our PM, ministers and even police bosses have been hinting at a link of the current problem with IS involvement. It is not difficult to understand that SHW/BAL are at a stage where they will even hang on to a straw. If an imaginary IS can be produced in BD then WCC-India would indeed be very pleased with SHW/BAL. They will then bomb/strafe us.In the bargain SHW/BAL gets scot-free from Peelkhana killings, khun, goom, massive graft, Sagar-Runi killing, etc.

Problem is Chittagong is home to a large number of religious conservatives. Look at Hefajat e Islami. It started its Dhaka march from Ctg. So it can't be ignored as political play. The news suggests that they wanted to start a mob, possibly influenced as Muslims vs AL. Even a few days ago it was reported that another plan was unearthed to invoke sectarian violence in Cox's Bazar like the Ramu in 2012. But the main problem is that the stupid police lost their credibility a long time ago.

This is the way to move forward. Dont let religious extremists grow, because once they grow and become acceptable in society, no one can save Bangladesh from becoming the next Pakistan. Joy Bangla!

Nope. They operate inside Arakan. They will never do such a silly thing - if it is not a set up by BAL govt..

They can operate in Arakan. But they have to take shelter in Chittagong and Mizoram. Not possible to hide in burmese high surveillance.

Inventing militants every now & then is a well refined skill of indian installed AL and its pretty much well known among Bangladeshis. They need to invent such militants & cry wolf to justify their illegal hold on power to the western world.

This type of recovery staged managed by awami league only when it is in trouble. There are trails of such coordinated stage manage events. All these stage managed drama are done according to indian prescription.

All bakwas. No training is required in Pakistan. We got enough people who can train others. Blaming even a loud fart on Jama't or Pakistan is an Indian obsession.

What bakwas, the OP clearly says, the militant was trained in Pakistan. Why r u blaming me,further Read the last 2 lines " Reporting by Serajul Quadir in Dhaka and Nazimuddin Shyamol from Chittagong; Editing by Raissa Kasolowsky)
Can't he(Militant) go to Pakistan for training,or it is next to Impossible.Any Bangladeshi extremist including you can go to Pakistan for training, sight seeing.Bangladesh does have diplomatic status with Pakistan.

About Indian obsession, man. For me it doesn't matter whether the militant was trained in Pakistan,Bangladesh,Iraq or any other Soviet Republic. A python is a always a python whether it is Burmese of African,we Indians don't even given 2 hots for Bangladeshis.
What about the Bangladeshis from Britain who go to Syria. Do they come to Bangladesh for training or it is just another Indian obsession
