Farooki reveals new film on Holey Artisan attack

Film maker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, who is currently serving as a jury in the 20th Busan International Film Festival, has revealed that his film will chronicle the horrific events at the Holey Artisan Bakery this year.
The film, initially titled Holy Bakery, will be made as a single-shot film, the director disclosed. In his words, the film will be an “intimate and intense” one.

“In that one-shot I believe we will be able to explore the complexity of South Asian politics, the rise of the culture of hatred, the rise of intolerance, the rise of militancy and conflict between the modern Bangladesh and a small segment of those who are conservative,” Farooki exclusively told the American entertainment weekly Variety.

The film is based on the events of 1 July 2016, when militants took hostages at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan, Dhaka and ended up massacring a total of the 20 hostages.

Cast of the film is yet to be revealed while it’s filming will start from March 2017. Chabial, Farooki’s own production outfit, will produce the film with other partners.

Currently, Farooki is on post-production phase with No Bed of Roses which stars international and local actors including Irrfan Khan, Nusrat Imroz Tisha, Parno Mittra and Rokeya Prachi.

Not yet watch this movie but I'm seeing some buzz in social media about this movie. If our middle class and young generation turns to movie hall can attract big investment in movie industry. Without big investment in BFDC by govt and local big producer or big business firm we can't fight with imported movies from India.

Our cinema industry is not something I'm very hopeful about. The ratings are mostly fluke. It can be a very good film but still the rating of 9.9 is nonsense. I doubt many searches for Bangla movie even on torrent sites.

Anyway after I return to Bangladesh I'd like to see some good Bangladeshi films.

I used to watch old Bengali (Indian) movies with Subtitles.....They really make some amazing movies.....I am sure Banglabeshi movies should also be good..will watch one for sure....Also FYI!....The best Directors of Indian Movies are Bangla or Mallu's.

The Bangladeshi industry has gone to hell (acting, scripts, direction, cinematography)...in the last 20 years, there haven't been 20 movies worth watching. People are trying, but it is an uphill battle.

Thats the same in every country...good quality movies are hard to come by..any language..its purely for entertainment....But again there are a select few within the film industry who make great movies..I wait for these to watch...at least in India...Malayalam Movies are quite good still....and a few Bengali Movies..as well.

The commercial mainstream Bangladeshi films are cheap copy of several Hindi and Tamil/Telugu films with literally only one hero in every film. Since Hindi films are intelligible by Bangladeshis and almost every Bangladeshi who has TV watches Hindi films. So they are now copying Tamil / Telugu films. Even then due to advent of internet many Bangladeshis also watch South Indian films. So now its impossible to fool audience. As a result halls are shutting down.

Off track films of Bangladesh look like low quality amateur youtube videos or TV drama shot in camcorder. except one or two which look good but they come in a while.

We have all types of crisis in our film industry since 90's. Now the condition is extremely severe. Some people are trying to revive the industry by joint ventures between India (West Bengal) and Bangladesh but most of these films also fail to attract audience.

not dubbed - they literally use BD actors with the same plot and 1/20th the budget. It is horrendous, if it wasn't so sad, it'd be hilarious



We get maybe 1 decent movie a year - with an interesting take on things and with production value that is of some standard. And it's not just because no one will go watch them. The big hit this year Aynaabaji (sadly it's a copy of Korean movie 'Tumbleweed') - was done really well. Actors were competent and the movie 'feels' like it has quality and as such, halls have been packed everywhere.

প্রায় সাত মাস পর গিয়াসউদ্দীন সেলিমের স্বপ্নজাল ছবির দ্বিতীয় ধাপের শুটিং শুরু হচ্ছে। ২৬ অক্টোবর থেকে শুটিং হবে ভারতের কলকাতায়। সেই শুটিংয়ে অংশ নিতে ২৫ অক্টোবর কলকাতা যাচ্ছেন ছবির নায়িকা পরীমনি, নায়ক ইয়াশ রোহান, অভিনেত্রী শিল্পী সরকার অপুসহ আরও কয়েকজন শিল্পী।
শুটিংয়ের প্রস্তুতি নিতে আজ মঙ্গলবার কলকাতা রওনা দিচ্ছেন ছবির পরিচালক গিয়াসউদ্দীন সেলিম। মুঠোফোনে প্রথম আলোকে তিনি বলেন, ‘শুটিংয়ের লোকেশন দেখা থেকে শুরু করে শিল্পীদের পোশাক-আশাকের অনেক প্রস্তুতির ব্যাপার আছে। এ জন্য আগে আগে যাচ্ছি।’
ছবিটির শুটিং প্রসঙ্গে এই পরিচালক বলেন, প্রায় ৬০ ভাগ কাজ শেষ হয়েছে। কলকাতার অংশের কাজ শেষ হলে দেশে ফিরে আবারও চাঁদপুরে হবে ছবিটির তৃতীয় ধাপের কাজ।
পরীমনি বলেন, কলকাতা শহরের বিভিন্ন স্থানে হবে স্বপ্নজাল-এর শুটিং, বিশেষ করে উত্তর কলকাতায়। টানা ১০ দিন শুটিং করার কথা ওখানে। এ পর্যন্ত ছবিটির যতটুকু কাজ হয়েছে, ততটুকু নিয়েই রোমাঞ্চিত পরী। তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘যে পরিচালক মনপুরা বানিয়েছেন, সেই পরিচালকের ছবি স্বপ্নজাল। ছবিটি মনপুরাকে ছুঁতে পারবে কি না, জানি না। তবে শুটিংয়ের প্রথম ধাপে টানা ২৪ দিন ধরে যে কাজ হয়েছে, তাতে প্রত্যাশা রাখতেই পারি।’
স্বপ্নজাল ছবিতে আরও অভিনয় করছেন মিশা সওদাগর, ফজলুর রহমান বাবু, ফারহানা মিঠু, ইরেশ যাকের, শাহেদ আলী, সুজয় প্রমুখ।

পরীমনির ছবিকে ঘিরে তুমুল আলোচনা!

উপরের ছবিটি দেখে অবশ্যই ভড়কে গিয়েছেন অনেকে, ভাবছেন কে পরিমনি আর কে সুচিত্রা সেন। নিজের ফেসবুক পেজে দেশের জনপ্রিয় চিত্রনায়িকা পরীমনি একটি ছবি প্রকাশ করেছেন। এরপরই তুমুল আলোচনা ছড়িয়েছে ছবিটিকে ঘিরে। মহানায়িকা সুচিত্রা সেনের লুকে দেখা গেল পরীমনিকে।

সবাই পরীমনির এমন লুক দেখে প্রশংসা করছেন। কেউ কেউ জানতে চাইছেন, পরীমনি কি সুচিত্রা সেন চরিত্রে কোন সিনেমায় অভিনয় করছে কিনা?

এ প্রসঙ্গে পরীমনি সংবাদমাধ্যমকে জানান, ‘ছবিটিকে ঘিরে এতো ফোন পাচ্ছি! সবাই শুধু প্রশংসা করছেন। সবাই বলছে, আমাকে নাকি সুচিত্রা সেনের মতো লাগছে। কেউ কেউ জানতে চাইছেন আমি কোন সিনেমায় সুচিত্রা সেনের চরিত্রে অভিনয় করছি কিনা?

ঢাকাই সিনেমার এই গ্ল্যামার কন্যা আরও বলেন, ‘ছবিটি মূলত গিয়াস উদ্দীন সেলিম পরিচালিত ‘স্বপ্নজাল’ সিনেমার শুভ্রার চরিত্র। এই সিনেমাটির শুটিং চলছে। আরও বেশকিছু অংশের দৃশ্যধারণ বাকি রয়েছে। ‘স্বপ্নজাল’ সিনেমায় অন্য এক পরী মনিকে দেখতে পাবেন।’

“Aynabaji” bags best film award at Seattle

The recent craze of Dhallywood, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury's “Aynabaji” has won the award of best film at the USA's 11th Seattle South Asian Film Festival. The producer of the film, Ziauddin Adil received the award.

On October 14, the film was screened at Seattle Art Museum. During the screening, the lead actor of the film Chanchal Chowdhury was present as chief guest. The festival ran till October 22, at which cast and crew of the screened films were present.

Talking about the award, director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury said, “Every award is a source of inspiration and this is no different. However, for me the best award of them all was the smile on viewers' faces. I dedicate this award to all movie lovers out there in Bangladesh.”

প্রেক্ষাগৃহে সিনেমা দেখতে গিয়ে ছারপোকার কামড় খাননি এমন সিনেমাপ্রেমী বাংলাদেশে পাওয়া মুশকিল। দেশের বেশির ভাগ প্রেক্ষাগৃহের পরিবেশ এখনো স্যাঁতসেঁতে। মশার যন্ত্রণাসহ ভ্যাপসা গরম সেসব প্রেক্ষাগৃহ থেকে বিনোদিত নয়, নাকাল হয়ে বের হতে হয় দর্শকদের। এ তো গেল ভেতরের দুর্ভোগ। বেশির ভাগ হলের প্রবেশমুখের পরিবেশও অপরিচ্ছন্ন, আছে টিকিট কালোবাজারির হয়রানি, ভাসমান যৌনকর্মীদের বিব্রতকর উপস্থিতি, যা পরিবার নিয়ে প্রেক্ষাগৃহে যেতে নিরুৎসাহিত করে মানুষকে। এই চিত্র কমবেশি দেশের প্রায় সব কটি প্রেক্ষাগৃহের। এসবের দায় ও ছবি-ব্যবসার মন্দায় বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে বহু সিনেমা হল। এই বাস্তবতায় মৃতপ্রায় শিল্পটিকে পুনরুজ্জীবিত করতে উদ্যোগী হয়েছেন কয়েকজন উদ্যোক্তা। রুচিশীল দর্শকদের হলমুখী করতে একই ছাদের নিচে তাঁরা গড়ে তুলেছেন একাধিক ছবি দেখার জন্য একাধিক পর্দাসংবলিত প্রেক্ষাগৃহ—মাল্টিপ্লেক্স। এগুলোর মধ্যে চলমান দুটি হচ্ছে ঢাকার বসুন্ধরা শপিং কমপ্লেক্সের স্টার সিনেপ্লেক্স ও যমুনা ফিউচার পার্কের ব্লকবাস্টার সিনেমাস।

এক যুগে মাত্র দুটি মাল্টিপ্লেক্স

তিনটি পর্দা নিয়ে যাত্রা শুরু করেছিল ঢাকার প্রথম মাল্টিপ্লেক্স স্টার সিনেপ্লেক্স। পরে বাড়ানো হয় আরও তিনটি পর্দা, যুক্ত হয়েছে হালনাগাদ প্রযুক্তি। শুরু থেকে থ্রিডি ও ডিজিটাল ছবি প্রদর্শনীর ব্যবস্থার সঙ্গে এখন এসেছে নতুন সাউন্ড সিস্টেম। একসঙ্গে ৫০০ দর্শকের ছবি দেখার একটি হল ছাড়াও সিনেপ্লেক্সে আছে মোট ১ হাজার ৮০০ আসন। ভারতের নির্মাতা মহেশ ভাট ও রমেশ সিপ্পি ঢাকায় এলে ঘুরে গেছেন স্টার সিনেপ্লেক্স। মন্তব্য করেছিলেন, সিনেপ্লেক্সটা মুম্বাইয়ের থেকেও ভালো। ৮ অক্টোবর যুগপূর্তির আয়োজন করেছিল সিনেপ্লেক্স কর্তৃপক্ষ।

বছর তিনেক আগে সাতটি পর্দা নিয়ে ছবি দেখাতে শুরু করেছে যমুনা ফিউচার পার্কের ব্লকবাস্টার সিনেমাস। এ ছাড়া ক্লাব মেম্বারশিপের মাধ্যমে বিশেষ সব সুবিধা দিয়ে থাকে এই মাল্টিপ্লেক্সটি। দেশের যেকোনো প্রান্ত থেকে অনলাইন বা অ্যাপসের মাধ্যমে টিকিট কেনার সুবিধাও রেখেছে তারা। এর পরিচালক মো. আলমগীর আলম জানালেন, ফিউচার পার্কের ক্রেতারাই এখানকার মূল দর্শক। আবার শুধু সিনেমার দর্শকও ছবি দেখার পর কেনাকাটা করেন শপিং মলটিতে।

ঢাকা-চট্টগ্রামে আরও কয়েকটি

ঢাকায় আরও বেশ কয়েকটি মাল্টিপ্লেক্স চালু হওয়ার কথা রয়েছে। ধানমন্ডির সীমান্ত স্কয়ারে তিন পর্দাবিশিষ্ট একটি মাল্টিপ্লেক্স তৈরির কাজ প্রায় শেষ পর্যায়ে। আগামী বছরের মার্চে সেটি চালুর কথা রয়েছে। এটিও করছে সিনেপ্লেক্স কর্তৃপক্ষ। এ ছাড়া তাদের তত্ত্বাবধানেই কক্সবাজারের কলাতলীর সৈকতসংলগ্ন এলাকায় তৈরি হচ্ছে তিনটি হল নিয়ে আরও একটি মাল্টিপ্লেক্স। সিনেপ্লেক্সের চেয়ারম্যান মাহবুব রহমান বলেন, ‘পর্যটকেরা দিনে সময় কাটান সৈকতে। সন্ধ্যার পরে তাঁদের কিছুই করার থাকে না। সেটা ভেবেই সেখানে গড়ে তোলা হচ্ছে মাল্টিপ্লেক্স।’ ইতিমধ্যে হোটেল সায়মনে সিনেমা প্রদর্শনীর ব্যবস্থা চালু করেছেন তাঁরা। বাইরের কেউ চাইলেও টিকিট কেটে এখানে ছবি দেখতে পারেন। তিনি জানান, কক্সবাজারে মাল্টিপ্লেক্স উপযোগী কোনো শপিং মল নেই। এ জন্য নতুন করে অবকাঠামো গড়ে তুলতে হচ্ছে। কক্সবাজারে যে পরিমাণ পর্যটক যাতায়াত করেন, তাতে মাত্র একটি মাল্টিপ্লেক্স যথেষ্ট নয়।

ঢাকায় মাল্টিপ্লেক্স করার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে প্রযোজনা সংস্থা জাজ মাল্টিমিডিয়ারও। মুখোমুখি আলাপকালে দেশের প্রতিটি জেলায় মাল্টিপ্লেক্স গড়ে তোলার স্বপ্নের কথাও জানালেন প্রতিষ্ঠানটির প্রধান নির্বাহী আবদুল আজিজ। তিনি বললেন, ‘শপিং মল ও মাল্টিপ্লেক্স একটি অন্যটির সঙ্গে ওতপ্রোতভাবে জড়িত। মাল্টিপ্লেক্স ছাড়া মার্কেট জমবে না, মার্কেট ছাড়া মাল্টিপ্লেক্স চলবে না। মাল্টিপ্লেক্সের অবকাঠামোর জন্য দরকার অন্তত ২০ ফুট উচ্চতা। ভেতরে স্তম্ভ থাকলে চলবে না। সেটা চালু মার্কেটগুলোতে সম্ভব নয়।’ এই মুহূর্তে দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলার বন্ধ হল চালু ও ম্যানুয়াল হলগুলো ডিজিটাল করছে জাজ মাল্টিমিডিয়া।

এ ছাড়া কিছুদিন আগেও মাল্টিপ্লেক্স করার পরিকল্পনা ছিল শ্যামলী সিনেমা হল কর্তৃপক্ষের। সিনেমার ব্যবসা আরও খানিকটা বাড়লে দ্রুত তারাও এগোবে মাল্টিপ্লেক্স তৈরির পথে।

কী হবে এত মাল্টিপ্লেক্সে

মাহবুব রহমান প্রশ্ন তুলেছেন, মাল্টিপ্লেক্স চালাতে যে পরিমাণ ছবি দরকার, তত ছবির জোগান কি আছে? অনুমোদন নেই বলে ভারত, পাকিস্তান, নেপালের ছবি তো দেখানো যাচ্ছে না। শুধু ঢালিউড ও হলিউডের ছবি দিয়ে মাল্টিপ্লেক্সগুলো চালানো সম্ভব নয়।

৫২ সপ্তাহে অন্তত ৪০টি ছবি থাকলে মাল্টিপ্লেক্স চালানো লাভজনক হবে বলে জানান তিনি। আশাবাদী কণ্ঠে তিনি বললেন, ‘দেশে মাল্টিপ্লেক্সে উপযোগী ছবি ছিল না। শুধু মফস্বলের হল উপযোগী ও নির্দিষ্ট বিশেষ গোষ্ঠীর জন্য ছবি বানালে সেসব ছবি মাল্টিপ্লেক্সে দেখানো যাবে না। হলে ছবি দেখতে আসা দর্শক দুই ধরনের। একটি শ্রমজীবী জনগোষ্ঠী, অন্যটি উচ্চশিক্ষিত ও রুচিশীল। দ্বিতীয় দলটির আছে মানসম্মত গল্প, গান ও সাউন্ডসিস্টেমের চাহিদা। আমাদের নির্মাতাদের এ দুটো শ্রেণিকে এক করার চেষ্টা করতে হবে, যেটা ভারতের নির্মাতারা পেরেছেন। শহুরে বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত ও শিক্ষিত শ্রেণির রুচি খানিকটা ভিন্ন। তাঁদের রুচির সঙ্গে মিল রেখেই ছবি বানানো দরকার। এ চেষ্টা করে খানিকটা সফল হয়েছেন হ‌ুমায়ূন আহমেদ, মোস্তফা সরয়ার ফারুকী, তৌকীর আহমেদ ও গিয়াস উদ্দিন সেলিেমরা। তাঁরা মাল্টিপ্লেক্সের দর্শকদের রুচিটা ধরতে পেরেছেন।’ সম্প্রতি মুক্তিপ্রাপ্ত আয়নাবাজি ছবিটি নিয়েও আশাবাদী তিনি। তাঁর মতে, ইন্টারনেট ও ডিজিটাল প্রযুক্তির এই সময়ে তরুণদের রুচি ও চিন্তাধারা প্রায় একই স্তরে চলে এসেছে। মাল্টিপ্লেক্স বাঁচাতে দরকার ভালো ভালো অনেক সিনেমা। এতে মৃতপ্রায় সিনেমাশিল্পও বেঁচে উঠবে।

প্রয়োজন নিরাপত্তা ও নতুন অবকাঠামো

চলমান মার্কেট ও শপিং মলগুলোতে হঠাৎ করে মাল্টিপ্লেক্স চালু করা নিরাপদ নয় বলে মনে করছেন সংশ্লিষ্ট উদ্যোক্তারা। দালানগুলো মাল্টিপ্লেক্স চালানোর কথা মাথায় রেখে তৈরি হয়নি। ফলে যেকোনো দুর্ঘটনায় একত্রে অনেক মানুষকে বের করে আনা সম্ভব হবে না। বরং অবকাঠামোয় সামান্য পরিবর্তন করে সিনেমা হলগুলোকে মাল্টিপ্লেক্সে রূপান্তর করা যেতে পারে। এ ছাড়া মাল্টিপ্লেক্সগুলোকে লাভজনক করতে হলে চাঁদাবাজি রোধ ও নিরাপত্তা জোরদার করাও জরুরি।

দিন দু-এক আগে এক যুগ পূর্তি উদ্‌যাপন করেছে স্টার সিনেপ্লেক্স। আর আজ মঙ্গলবার যা জানা গেল, তা নাকি এই প্রেক্ষাগৃহে আগে কখনোই ঘটেনি। সকালে দেখা গেল, ‘আয়নাবাজি’ সিনেমা দেখতে বসুন্ধরা বিপণিবিতানের সামনে দর্শকদের লম্বা লাইন। দুপুরে এই লাইন ছাড়িয়ে গেছে নিচে লিফট থেকে বিপণিবিতানের বাইরে পর্যন্ত।
সিনেপ্লেক্স কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছে, মার্কেট বন্ধ থাকার পরও মানুষের এত লম্বা লাইন শুধু ‘আয়নাবাজি’ সিনেমার জন্য; যা এর আগে কখনোই ঘটেনি।
লাইনে থাকা একজন দর্শক ফেসবুকে একটি ছবি আপলোড করে জানান, আজ ‘আয়নাবাজি’র টিকিট তো পাবেনই না। আগামীকালেরটাও জুটবে কি না সন্দেহ!
বিষয়টি সত্যি কি না, জানতে স্টার সিনেপ্লেক্সের কর্তৃপক্ষের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করা হয়। এই প্রেক্ষাগৃহের মিডিয়া ও বিপণন বিভাগের জ্যেষ্ঠ কর্মকর্তা মেজবাহ উদ্দিন বলেন, ‘এটা সত্যি যে আজ ও আগামীকাল বুধবার আয়নাবাজি সিনেমার টিকিট অগ্রিম বিক্রি হয়ে গেছে। আর হ্যাঁ, যে ছবিটা পোস্ট করা হয়েছে, তা ‘আয়নাবাজি’ দেখার জন্য দর্শকদের লাইন।
মেজবাহ উদ্দিন বলেন, ‘আমাদের এই মার্কেট খোলা হয় সকাল ১০টায়। মঙ্গলবার সাপ্তাহিক ছুটির দিন। অথচ আজ বন্ধের দিনের মার্কেট খোলার আগে থেকেই দর্শকদের লাইন দেখা গেছে। কেউ আগাম টিকিট কিনতে এসেছেন, আবার কেউ টিকিট হাতে নিয়ে ছবিটি দেখতে এসেছেন। ছুটি থাকায় দর্শকদের চাপটা একটু বেশিও। আমরাও চেষ্টা করছি দর্শকদের সন্তুষ্টি আদায়ের।’
‘আয়নাবাজি’ মুক্তি পেয়েছে ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর। গত দুই সপ্তাহে রাজধানীর স্টার সিনেপ্লেক্সসহ দেশের বেশ কয়েকটি প্রেক্ষাগৃহে চলছে ছবিটি। মুক্তির পর থেকে প্রায় প্রতিটি শো হাউসফুল যাচ্ছে, খবর আসছে এমনটাই। তাই দর্শকদের বাড়তি চাপ সামাল দিতে দেশের অন্যতম প্রেক্ষাগৃহ স্টার সিনেপ্লেক্স ছবিটির সর্বোচ্চ ১০টি প্রদর্শনী করছে প্রতিদিন। যেমনটা এর আগে অন্য কোনো ছবির বেলায় ঘটেনি।
‘আয়নাবাজি’ সিনেমার প্রধান চরিত্রে অভিনয় করেছেন চঞ্চল চৌধুরী, নাবিলা, পার্থ বড়ুয়া। অন্যান্য চরিত্রের অভিনয়শিল্পীরা হলেন লুৎফর রহমান জর্জ, হিরা চৌধুরী, শওকত ওসমান, বৃন্দাবন দাস, গাউসুল আলম, ইফফাত তৃষা প্রমুখ। যৌথভাবে এই ছবির চিত্রনাট্য লিখেছেন অনম বিশ্বাস ও গাউসুল আলম শাওন।

The big hit this year Aynaabaji (sadly it's a copy of Korean movie 'Tumbleweed')

There is nothing in common between Tumbleweed and Aynabaji except the concept of serving prison term of others for money.Even serving other's prison term is not the main driving force of the movie Tumbleweed unlike Aynabaji,rather a side story on an usual romantic action movie.Thousands of movie can be maid on a single concept,without copying the first one.One example can be given of 'Alien attack on earth'.Hollywood and other film industry are making tons of movie on this subject,but it would be unfair to say that all these movie is the copy of the first one showed on hollywood some 100 years ago.
